K&N filters on an M120

I'm looking at the airfilters on my M120 engine. It appears that as this engine is installed into the SL600, MB had to make a significant compromise to filter size. The car is essentially sucking its air through a filtered cigeret. There just is no room for proper sized filters. It seems that this engine would probably respond well to a K&N filter element.

Might anyone have any before and after dyno data of an SL600 or S600 using a standard and K&N filter. Iv been hearing all sorts of BS stories and snake oil claims but I would like to see some hard numbers.

it is and i would avoid any non OE style filter, to avoid damaging maf sensors, since they list over $500.00 each

It is equipt with MAF sensors one on each side. Is it the MAF sensors that are critical to filter oiling or the O2 sensors. It's got 4 O2 sensors.

My plan was to use the K&N filters dry.

it isn't just the oil that damages the maf's, if they are dry then particles pass and those will also damage the sensors, so either way save yourself some money and headache and stick with original paper filters.
