LOL A mistress would HAVE to be cheaper than this project!

Neil, I used the 3.2L M104 kit but the electronics may be the only major difference between the kits.

Well if things go well this coming summer and renovations don't consume all my time, maybe the cars can have a twin-turbo "play date"

Sounds like fun. I think there's some race tracks near you and I'm sure the PureMB guys will have lots of meets planned once the weather is better.

Hi, the upgrades to my car are almost complete. Does anyone know what type of oil and filter are used in the 3.2L M104 TT conversion?

Try Castrol Edge Sport 10W60. Truly one tough oil.

B.J.

I use a full synthetic...either Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec 5W-50.
Weight dependent on your temps.

Prepping for install

Well, it's my turn to install the kit I bought from Mijo on my 1988 300CE. My coupe isn't quite the stunner that RBYCC/Ed's is, but I do like that car and I'm hoping I'll like it even better in a month or two.

In reviewing everybody's comments on the kit, both M103 and M104, I have made up a list of stuff to do before the actual install begins. I already ordered a Split Second controller with the data acquisition feature so that I can at some point feed a wideband sensor into it and hopefully make the tuning easier. I am hopeful that I can discard the ignition retard apparatus, too. I understand from Ed's posts that once fuel enrichment is properly addressed, the timing is not an issue. I'll try it that way on my car and see if it works.

I'm also probably going to renew the cooling system components before I get started. New radiator, new water pump, hoses, etc. The car already runs hot as it is. I'm undecided on whether to try to renew the top end of the engine at this point, as I don't want to make the project too big.

I'm hoping to find a good used head I can send to the machine shop to have ready when my head gasket goes. Even if it doesn't go, I'll plan on that job later.

More immediately, I'm trying to find out the exact dimensions of the oil supply fitting provided by TT. My kit came without that fitting as well as the oil pan fittings. The latter shouldn't be a problem as they look like average hydraulic fittings. But I would like to get started on a solution to the oil feed fitting. I'm in the market for a good used oil filter mount to get started on that project.

Anyway, the education I got just from reading this thread (most of it at least) has made me feel much more confident about starting the project and successfully completing it. Thanks to all contributors.

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced O2 wideband sensor? I need one which has an output to a gauge and an output (0-5 volt) for the additional injector controller.

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

Well the car is back on the road in Toronto just in time for the good weather.

I had upgraded the turbos to GT2860RS units for better breathing but offset that by installing cats. The car went back on a Mustang dyno and now makes 310rwhp up from 272 with the smaller turbos. However, it's now the exhaust (with cats) proving to be the bottleneck with boost and power dropping after only 5k revs. At some point soon I may decide to do a full custom turbo-back exhaust to get the full 500hp potential from this engine. I may be in no rush though, the car is a torque monster already.
My friend is shipping over my G-Tech from oz so I'll try to time some 0-60 runs when it arrives.

What is your boost set at and what was your torque?
My last Mustang pull @ 7lbs with the small Garrett's was 262RWP and 302 torque.
Were the GT2860RS bolt on with no interfence in the engine bay?

Thanks

Ed a.

Joe, I'm actually looking at some carbon fibre fenders and hood from Albert at SoCalCarbon. The goal would be to eventually swap all the metal body panels out for carbon fibre and shed a few hundred kg.

Ed, boost is peaking at 12psi, the wastegates are set at 14psi. Peak torque is 326. Dyno chart attached.
The disco potatos were far from bolt on unfortunately, ended up taking nearly 40hrs labour and $900 in custom parts to swap them in.
