LED Taillights for W124 - 2 different types?

I noticed the LED taillights that are being sold on ebay. However, they look like 2 different ones, in that the brake/tail lights light up differently.

On the stock W124, only 1 lamp (the middle one) is on when the headlights/parking lights are on. The outer lamp only lights up when you apply the brakes. There is also a sidemarker.

1) This one has all the lamps on. It looks like the one that 2phast has. Therefore, it is not stock setup, and hopefully when you apply the brakes all the lamps will go on much brighter.

2) This one is perhaps like a stock W124 is supposed to light up. It looks like only the end lamp goes on when you apply the brakes. I'm not sure about the sidemarker though. Does anyone know if you still have this on when your headlights/parking lights are on?

3) This third one is the same as above, but it has a partially clear tail.

What do you guys think about this one? will it cheapen the car?

Generally, does anyone have any info on how these LEDs are, and also, which specific parts of the taillight lights up when headlights are one vs when you apply the brakes?

I'm not sure if I should get the LEDs or not...or I should just stick with the crystal lenses that uses the stock wiring harness and bulbs. Your replies will help make my decision.

I'm looking for LED taillights for my car as well. It would be nice to find a bulb replacement for the existing fixture. I'll be following this post.

Thanks.

Since these lights eliminate the rear fog, which is mandated in some countries, I believe the reasoning behind the inner lights being illuminated and bright, is to make up for this. They are bright and visible from long distances, the outter lights are not as bright, but when you apply the brakes, they illuminate just as bright as the inner lights.

I think its a good setup, they fit well and don't leak.

2phast,

I think you are talking about the 1st link, which are the same as your lights I believe.

How about the 2nd lights here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-95-MERCEDES-W124-E-CLASS-LED-TAIL-LIGHTS-300E-E320_W0QQitemZ300128125512QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item300128125512

It looks like only the outer ones come on with the brakes?

I'm not sure what part of the taillight gets lit up when you have the headlights/parking lights on. I'm not sure if you have any bulb at all in the center.

I don't know about the 2nd set or how they function, but judging from the pictures, it would appear that the inner light (closest to the license plate) uses a standard bulb, this could be for the rear fog, like the OE lights.

On the set that I have, all the lights (except turn and backup) are LED. With the driving lights on, the inner lights (closest to the license plate) illuminate very brightly, the light next to them is not as bright, but when you step on the brake, they light up just as bright as the driving lights. You can see this in the pictures on my web site.

3 Types of LED now

thanks 2phast for your info.

I just seen a 3rd new type of LED on eBay. It has a completely different look.

Only the pic doesn't look like it is for a W124.

That picture is not a set of lights for a W124, looks like they are for a Accord

I agree, it looks like its from an Accord.

I don't see how they are going to sell many of these when they the picture is that from another car.
