Jacobs omni Ignition Install

I reciently purchased a Jacobs omni pak and am planning on installing it in my 87 300E this weekend. Can anyone offer mounting recomendations? Also, what would be the optimal spark plug gap for this upgrade? Your comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam

I went through two Jacobs' Omni Magnum systems within 3 years. I finally took the whole sytem out except the sparkplug wires. Be warned that if the unit fails, you'll be stalled wherever you are. You MUST carry a spare wire to run from the stock coil to the distributor thus bypassing the Jacobs system if, and when, your car stalls and get you on your way again. I personally feel, however, that the Jacobs system is good as long as it is operating.

Best wishes,

Jeff

Talk to good ol Don Swinford.

You know he has it, and I'm sure his has lasted him for many years and many thousands of miles.

Check out http://home.earthlink.net/~asherson/Don

Should be some pics of his engine bay where you can see the jacobs ignition placement he used.

This is sort of off topic, but...I've been trying to find a manufacturer of cold air intake systems for MB. The stock intake is too restrictive.

Adam, put the brain (of the Jacobs) far away from heat. Call Jacobs for the correct gap.

Best wishes and good luck,

Jeff

I have been running Jacob's ignition system(street pac) for 6 years, 2 years on the street & 4 years at the race track. NO problems! I did have an MSD system failure but the Jacobs system is still going. I DO have the system "rubber" mounted & INSIDE of the car. Found the MSD unit failed due to vibration. When I ran reqular H8DC0's the best gap was around .054". For racing I use BERU ultra-x plugs at ".048.

hey alon

i assume you already installed your jacobs ignition pack. i installed my jacobs ignition pack next to the abs unit. it totally looks custom. all you need is an l-bracket form jacobs electronics. this is the best place, becuz it is totally away from the exhaust manifold.

install: you will need to remove the driver side headlight assembly. after you remove it, you want to mount the smaller part of the bracket to the frame (under the headlight assembly). make sure there is enough room so you can reinstall the headlight assmebly and have easy access to the bulbs. the ignition pack should be facing towards the back but the LEDS are facing upwards. trust me it fits perfectly and totally looks professional.

i later removed the omni magnum and installed a pro-street ignition pack with a cmd coil.

later
