Just a thought in 300E air intake...

Hey, I was reading about how the 300Es don't draw enough air through the system to maximize power. I was looking at the entire assembly. There is the air box, then a pipe that leads forward to very close to the radiator. That pipe connects to a plastic scoop that basically draws air in from the front of the car. I was thinking, wouldn't it be better to basically saw off the scoop part of the intake, and just have it so that air will come straight in. That way, at higher speeds, air would basically be compressed before it gets into the air box, which means more air moving through. With the current design, at speed, the scoop would actually deflect air away. Any thoughts? Am I making any sense?
