M.B. Doc Help, please E420 sport springs

M. B. Doc, I received the springs from the PartsShop that you were kind enough to research for me. Looking at them, I realized that we didn't specify whether there was a difference between E420's. Is there a different application for with or without level control? My car does not have level control, it is a 94. The numbers you provided were:

>The strongest spring listed for a E420 is the 124-321-42-04. Euro sport spring for the front. For the rear 124-324-35-04, euro sport spring for the rear.

The springs look a little short, and maybe that is correct given the higher rate/ stiffer spring. I would hate to start the project and realize mid stream that the spring is for a car with level control.

Thank you again for all your help.

P.s. the sway bar numbers would be great if you ever get a chance to look those up, too.

The spring part numbers that I came up with were for a non-leveling car.
The sport front anti-sway bar for the E420 is the STOCK E500 bar, part number 124-323-72-65. You will need 2 rubber mounts part # 124-323-51-85.
The rear sport bar is also the std. E500 part, part number 124-326-25-65. Also 2 mounts # 201-326-16-81
To install the rear bar the rear subframe must be REMOVED, takes about 6-8 hrs to do that. BEST of luck!!

Thanks, this is great. I have already installed the 500 front sway bar, probably get a pro to do the rear. I really appreciate this info.

Bob,

What's your opinion of the sway bar addition? How does it effect the cornering performance of the car?

TIA!

The front sway bar leveled out the cornering some and helped the side to side rock that came with the larger wheels and tires.( I had installed 16inch wheels with 225/50/16 tires previously.) But, this made the car feel very twitchy. I subsequently added HD Bilstein struts front and rear. This helped A LOT, single most dramatic upgrade, fairly easy install. I'm hoping that these springs will lower it slightly and firm up the ride just a little more, ridding me of the residual sway. I have the special spring compressor made for Mercedes cars, and I'm going to carefully tackle this tomorrow evening. I'll let you know how it goes. This should yield me the closest thing us 400E/E420 owners can get to a sportline.

Bob,

Thank you very much for the post! You have confirmed what I suspected; namely, that if you want to change the behavior of the suspension in a positive way, there really isn’t a 1 part fix. It is great to hear that the shocks make a big difference. Please do let me know about the outcome of the spring install. Will you need to align the suspension after the spring install?

Thanks again!

Regards
