Help! I'm in Germany and want to pick up a set of Euro headlamps for my 500E. It's a '92-can anyone help me out? Need this ASAP.

Thanks guys. And by the way, the Nurburgring was fun to drive!

I doubt any of us Americans would have the German part nummer...jagano. Jezt, just go to a big city dealer and I'm almost positive someone there will sprechen sie english. All you really need is a photo of your 124 to show the parts guy. If your near Vecta in NW Germany; Anders MB has a parts department that speaks english. If not, I can go home and get the part numbers off the boxes I have...remember, you'll need the wipers/motors too since the US lights/wipers are an entirely different set-up if you want them. Let me know or call me...860.533.1844. BTW, pick me up a new D&W catalog in one of the Kriegbaums and I'll reimburse you later this week. Hope you are having a 'fantashtish' time...Tchuss

right out of thread: E500/500E Euro Lights Update
For those of you who are still about to upgrade the headlamps on their E500/500Es, the correct part numbers for the headlamps are:

For use with hoods prior to 94:
Left: 124 820 4359
Right: 124 820 4459

For use with 94/95 hoods:
Left: 124 820 0357
Right: 124 820 0457

greetingz,

I have a 1993 500E and would like to get the Euro headlamps.

How would it look if I ordered the 94-95 style and didn't upgrade the hood right away?

Michael- how much where the headlamps in Germany?

Everyone- what's the lowest price out there?

Thanks,
:-) neil

Glen. We are 99% sure (my wife's been driving it), and I'm getting ready to do some of the "must" upgrades.

I've been wondering about a "custom" hi-perf radiator, or just purchasing a new ($370) or rebuilt one ($150), esp. with all the talk about 500E's overheating.

Perhaps I'll put in dual electric fans (lose the viscous fan for some more HP) and add a resistor to the water-coolant temperature probe.

The only pictures I have are the "unwashed" Wineberry 500E's I posted previously.

Thanks,
:-) neil

Neil,

So you bought another fast and terrific car!!! Congrats (I have been out of the forum for a while). What car do you prefer to drive now; the basic-just-bought 500E or the damned-I-changed-way-too-much 300TE?
I prefer driving my totally rebuild C250D over the 300SL24 (although I start to like the SL a lot better after it changed a little during the last couple of months).

BTW: It doesn't look too much out of place if you start by changing the headlights first and the hood later...I bet that most people don't even notice the rounded lenses coming from beside the grill.

good luck & greetingz,

Neil,

Hey Cuz! Here is what a 1992-3 124 looks like with 1994-5 euro lights but with the older hood. I still haven't upgraded my hood yet. I've been driving with the updated lights and original hood for over a year now and no one has said anything. Even when I point it out, it is hard to notice.

It bothers me the way it looks, but the new hood is a few months away still.

Hope this helps!

David- you're right, not very noticeable. I think I'll get the 94-95 Euro 500E headlamps in anticipation of redoing the hood.

I like what "run.exe" did with the hidden washers for a smoother look, but I still like having the STAR upfront, because it helps in gauging parking.

MBenz, the 500E is a great long-distance tourer. I'm deciding if I want to do a 3.07 limited-slip diff like the wagon's.

What's special about an ASR diff?

With the SportLine suspension, including control-arm bushings, the 360TE's ride is definitely more taught and BMW M3-like.
Also, with the shorter gearing, the wagon is actually faster than the 500E to 100MPH. After about 105, the 500E's torque and gearing takes over. Moreover, with the M104, you have to be in the right gear to get things motivated. A six-speed would be nirvana.

I'm just so damned impressed with the functionality of the wagon, and how with virtually the same wheelbase and length, how much more carrying capacity it has.

The 500E's M119 engine, is so silky smooth it's scary.

Next time, a W124 wagon with a 6.0L M119 engine, 500E suspension, fenders, and spoilers . . .
