M120 into 107 Fuel Milage

Just completed a 890 mile round trip from Yalesville CT to Buffalo NY and bach, using 42.18 gallons of gas. Average speed was about 75 MPH half of the trip was top down and half up. That's about a 10 to 15% increase over the 560SL mileage.

Picture with 900 miles of bugs along the road.

21 mpg out of a V12? I'd say that's pretty good.

So have you calculated how many miles you have to drive before starts paying you back in gas bills?

I believe I could do significantly better if I slowed it down a bit. The cams are not actually variable on this car but shift a set amount at 2200 RPM ~ 69MPH. I think I could top 23 MPG at a steady 60 with the hard top.

The good thing about rising gas prices is that it will pay off sooner.

PS

I had the cleanest wheels there.

Yes but only the front bumper. Oh I forgot to mention this was at a 107 GTG in buffalo.

You only did the front bumper and that was taken out by bugs along with the front plate. See the first post.

picture 3- That grille on car 2 looks horrible.... 107's should be left as they are, magnificent...

I have yet to find an aesthetic mod that look good on this chassis...

Im always the only SL-C owner at the GTG's....

Id love to see that M120 though.....

I beat my brains out trying to see how I could do a chrome billet or even a chrome-edged grille for this car. With the grille plastic out, you can see that they are pretty complicated curves and just not doable, and no matter what you do it will be too "heavy" without fewer slats. I do like, though, the mods I did - wrought iron black grille and star plastic, and perforated polished but not chromed aluminum behind the star, much like the more modern MB's. IMO, the 86+ spoiler is an improvement on this car with or without "small" bumpers. The post-85 bumpers stick out from the car an inch less on each end, which to me makes a BIG difference; If you can, removing the front license plate and putting rubber across looks good. I have stainless wire mesh "screens" over my fog lights (not shown here), which a guy was making a few years ago and I like them a lot.

IMO, euro headlights, with the "city lights" set up as daytime running lights and modified for blinking turn signals are good modifications, also.
