Superchaging the 600 SEC (M120 V12)

Hi,

I've been searching all over for info about installing a supercharger on the 600 SEC with the M120 6.0L V12 engine, but can't find any. The engine bay of this car is very tight, but I wouldn't think it's not possible. Also, from what I can see, this engine's compression ratio is 10.0:1. I guess this is not optimal for forced induction.
Any how, has it been done, is doable or plain stupidity?

I'm also interested in the same info for the M119 engine.

Thanks in advance

You have an SEC with a V12 in it now?

Perhaps a turbo charger would be easier to fit into that tight space.

Well, I dont have a 600 SEC, but I love that car and am thinking of getting one. As far as I know, the 600 SEC does not come with any other engine (attached picture).

I think this would take up much more room. You'd have to have custom exhaust manifolds and more plumbing. Some of the superchargers I've seen are not bigger than turbochargers and there is no need for custom exhaust manifolds to fit turbos.

Oh, I thought you were talking about a 126 SEC with a V 12 in it. I only know of one of those.

There are companies that make a turbo setup that replaces the mufflers on the back of the car. They claim to have the turbos tuned where there is very little lag and being as it is all out back there is no engine bay issues. Saw a show where they put one on a corvette. Real clean setup. I think it was Horsepower TV on spike. They seemed to be rather impressed. Just a thought.

i read a piece in a uk tuning mag about a bmw m5 with twin turbos out back in the same way, monster car!! and i think a mustang, again massive power, and all the heat generated by the turbos is away from the engine, cools oil and everthing. would be majic on a v12 600 engined 124 coupe with megasquirt..... hmm i got a spare coupe at the moment, just need an engine!

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

Just after adding my post I stumbled over a web site explaining rear mounted systems. I had never seen this before. I think you are right, it does seem to be the way to go. I can't see any disadvantage at all. I can't see why people would suggest lag. The compressed air from the turbo moves pretty darn fast. Same with engine exhausts.

Besides method, does anybody know if forced induction has been done in the M120 V12 engine? Or perhaps some input I could find usefull. My main concern is the compression ratio of the engine and overall engine reliability. If I do go ahead with this projekt I will be consulting Roman "Pumpish" for a megasquirt install. I live in Stockholm and his shop is close by.

Turbo E320: That's a pretty sweet car in that vid. Nice job.

Turbo E320, how does it compare to your turboed w210 e320 in terms of lag and response ? Also where is the air filter mounted, is it under the car (any pics)?

P.S. love the sound of the car ..

This page is helpfull: http://www.junkyardturbos.com/Rear-Mount-Turbo.php

I also found a few old forum debates where you can find more knowledable people than me discussing rear mounted systems, some saying it's a great setup, some saying it's a bad setup. A lot of crap is in these forums but there are a few good posts to read so you can get an idea of what the pros and cons are. Some threads:

But no one has heard of any kind of forced induction system on the M120 engine?

There was a guy on here at one point with a supercharged SL600. It had dual paxton superchargers on it.
