Thank you indeed! I just printed off a color glossy print, and it's so good that the text from the back of the page reads through! It's almost as if I had the original article.

Looks like R&T got the location of the spare wrong. It's too high and the silhouette is too narrow for the stock 225/55-16 size! (Just my way of saying I'm paying attention) Now how about that engine profile? Who's sharp enough to know whether that's too small and too far forward or not?

Also note the seating capacity - should be four IMO. When I bought my car it had a seat insert and a fifth seatbelt added in place of the rear passengers' console. I replaced it with the proper console. I've never seen another 500E without the center console, has anyone else?

Sorry about the letting coming through. I could not figure out how to scan it without having the lettering show through. I thought of putting paper behind the page, but I could not find a paper that worked properly, and I did not have any black paper (I thought that would be best).
As far as the 5th seat I too noticed that, Mark's car is the first I have ever heard of having a 5th seat.
There are some minor details wrong with the drawing (A good one at that) but that is to be expected.

Regarding the fifth seat position, mine was distinctly non-original; perhaps it was a dealer installation at the original owner's request. The seat belt latch did not look the same as the other seat belts in the car. The seat insert upholstery quality was okay, but the backing materials didn't match. When I installed my OEM rear seat console, I pulled out the original L/R rear seat cushions - they're Recaro's! I was just wondering if MBUSA had to retrofit the fifth seat for gas-guzzler/EPA/NHTSB concerns or some other nonsense like that.

AWWWWWWWW Im dissapointed.... I was hoping the 500s would be faster!!!!! I was following a Mustang the other day in my 300e on some windy roads, and I had a hard time keeping up, so I figured id show him in a 500... but I guess not.... the stang has better slalom times too...doh! Well at least our interior is better.... and the 500 will last more than 3 months...

If you're going by the numbers, I'm sure the 500E will be faster. A 500E will keep up with any mustang except the new cobra and cobra R. Oh and the 500E will handle better too, even if it does have 16" rims.

Hey Dwight-

No, I never did. I decided that it was so far away and I really wanted a '94 model. I'm not sure if they have it anymore.

So I guess the next best thing is this E420. I'm having AMG Monoblocks put on tomorrow and I pick it up on Saturday, just in time for the meet at Willow Springs on Sunday. I hope I can get a coat of wax on it before meeting the other MercedesShop.com people. I'm very excited!

I browsed through Road and Tracks web site and gathered the dates of the 400E/E420 articles. I plan on going to the library tomorrow and making photocopies of them. If anyone is interested I'll email them to you. If a lot of people want to see them, I'll post here.

Let me know,

Craig

Hey... about the 500e being faster... top speed yes... but acceleration is unfortunetaly what mercedes doesn't do best. 0-60 and quarter mile the stang wins. However... I agree with the handling... they say the stang has better numbers on the skidpad... but I wouldn't put my money on one of those... I mean... I drove one the other day... and it feels like a piece... but then again, it does end up at around $28k, so crappy just-about-everything can be expected...
