I would just like to say to everyone that the manual swap is complete! Gears are exactly like before, 1st=60, 2nd=100, 3rd=160, 4th=220. 5th gear is not overdrive, but I haven't had a chance to hit the limit yet.
The car feels fantastic and smooth, I'm pleased with my mechanic. And even with the manual, I usually launch in 2nd. I'm just so used to it! |

Ohhh okkk! Do u think we should retard timing at that low level of boost ?

well any boost on an engine designed to be NA is not low let alone when it has static compression of 10 tp 1 and then it also has cam advance in the range where u have the most boost.
Atleast as a start have the EZL set at the lowest setting and once u have good AFRs dial in more timing. I am sure ur aware to the fact that knock on a boosted engine has the potential to destroy the engine faster than u can say oh ****.

Of course. When i asked about not changing timing. I meant after having good A/F ratios. We already bought the LC-1 wideband and will be installed soon. We will retard timing first, since power is the least of our concerns as a first step, We just want to make sure everything is running good, AF ratios, no knocking, and no oil leaks, or vacuum. Then we start advancing seeking for the max power.

Just for the record, the car has gotten significantly faster top end. I pulled with a E90 325i from 120kph till 190kph in 5th, and overtook him at 170. In 5th.
Hey Jay, my car is backfiring a bit. I wanna know why. When we installed the manual, it didn't run properly at first, so he fiddled around with the ignition control module and it worked. It occasionally jerks a bit up top, too. I think the timing is a bit off, but that's just my guess. What do you think? |

accel enrichment is an issue u migth want to adress, yor arf can be perfect in all areas, but when you snap the throttel open, you need more fuel, upto 500% more! ie 5 times the ammount that gives constant afr at steady throttel per rmp. the smaller the turbo, the more this is an issue...

Shooma, let us know what the guy did exactly and how that solved the issue? then we can know why its backfiring. BTW my M103 in both NA and Turbo form used to backfire.
do u have the first resonator in the exhaust?

I programmed a small part of my E320's fuel map to make it backfire lol. I loved it when I got tailgaters merely feet away from me so I would brake boost, let off and BOOM! Very fun.

usully, a backfire in the exaust indicates rich, backfire into inlet shows lean.

That also depends on engine load. A lean engine on decel with the engine holding it back (going down a hill) will pop in the exhaust with that distinctive decel 'crackle'

can't see how backfiring, especially into inlet can be good for turbo or engine? I know if you backfire with LPG enough it's goodbye something

OK. its not who's cock is biggest or what, but in std running of engine, backfire is not good, it indicates mixture is wrong. either lean or rich, if on overrun, then fuel cut is not working correctly, and extra fuel is being burnt in exhaust, not good for lambada sensor, it fu3k them up big time.
my mate had a rs 500 spec cossy which did this, it shot flames from the exhaust on over run and was so fast it was scary, but it was for anti lag reasons, and was accompanied by major retard of ignition, and didn't help the life of the engine at all, 10,000 miles and done. also even a naturally asp engine needs accel enrich, for when the map goes from like 20KPa in a low load cruise condition or over run, to 80 KP or more with big throttle depression, like with a quick snap of the throttle to overtake the 80yr old doing 40 on the main road! if the transition is slow and smooth, a std ve map may be OK, but quick changes needs way way more fuel to compensate for change in pressure, more so with turbo or supercharger, but as well with N/A.
