A few years ago I traveled the same piston-guided-rod-route when fitting WISECO pistons and after market rods.

The rods were fine and maintained the factory small end width but WISECO could not, at that time, produce a piston with the required pinboss cheek to cheek dimension. The solution was machined oilzite bronze spacers on the pin centralizing the rod. Not a big deal but would rather not have had to resort to spacers.

WISECO makes great pistons and seemed reasonably priced ( ~ $150/piston w/coating/pin/ring set (at that time)) so I recommend checking with them and determining if they can today make pistons with the required pin boss to pin boss dimension for Merc piston guided rods.

Here is a photo of the pistons w/pin spacers installed in a 2.3-16v:

Thanks, I know that is an option. I have talked to CP and they think they can do it without spacers. I am going to send in a piston/rod combo and see what they say.
I took out the rest of the pistons and everything looks good I think I must have had some detonation on this cyl. that caused the land to break. The rings and everything looks good. Bearings look good. I think that with the final tune the motor could have taken this for a long time. I think I just beat it to much getting there.
