sourcing a engine
so i've decided to scrap the plans to rebuild my 2.3 16v engine, it's just not smart money at $6-8k, so im looking to do a swap of a M104 and i'm trying to price it out, i'd ideally like to get my hands on a 3.6..but a 3.4 will work just as well if nothing else then i'll get a 3.2. aside from junkyards searches, does anyone have any good sources for good used engines? my google search is not as lucrative as i'd like. most places want one specific car to search for..not a range of cars

Go to 190rev.net they do lots of motor swaps.
car-part.com is a online listing of salvage yard inventory. What type of car? The 3.4 AMG is a long stroke 3.0 and the 3.6 AMG is a long stroke / overbored 3.2 Both are not that common. A 3.2 with a 5 speed auto has enough zip. Doing a motor swap is much more than just finding the engine, there are lots of parts that need changed so geting a complete parts car is usually the best route. |

Car-part.com
AMG 3.6s Occaisionally litter eBay, try there. You'd have to make a 3.4, I highly doubt you'll stumble across an AMG 3.4 which was an M103 most of the time, being parted out in the US.

3.2 is a M103 CIS AMG engine. of course your best bet if you want an amg engine would be the 3.6 HFM (electronicly injected) engine that you can still find on ebay or some scrap yard, but still it is not easy to find. And if you dont have an HFM car, you will probably need all the goodies that come with the engine to make it work. Idealy a donor car. |

You are correct, my bad.
Either way a 3.2 AMG or a 3.4 AMG isn't a real option in the US, those cars just aren't around.

I searched for 2 years before i got my hands on a C36 engine for not outrageous money. For the going cost you can boost a 3.0M104 and be heads and tails above what C36 performance could even dream of... Reliably at least.
If you're really stingy you could get a 3.0 M103, re drill an OM603 turbo mani, use an HX35, be done for less than the entry price of the C36 and still be over 300 whp. Food for thought.

320 to a 5.0
I'm thinking of doing something like you I have a 6 cylinder,I want to add a v8 and keep my trans and rear end because it would be quicker off the line.
also I'll feed the V8 nitrous

You'd save money and a whole bunch of time if you bought a 500SEL or an S500 and put a 320 rear gear in it, or S350 gears.

why not go the other way, put your engine in a w202 c class? it would have the same effect but handle so much better

Diesel crank would be nice, but for the money you'll spend I really doubt it'll be worth the cost of the rebuild to run an N/A 3.6L M104 if all you're going to do is the crank while you're in there.
Just turbo the 3.2L
