W140 M104 turbo project

Hi everyone

Here is my little project that I started a while back on the old 300SE.

I was originally thinking of a supercharger setup but then decided to go with a turbo.

So as you guys would know the S class is a really heavey car so I thought I might get rid of some extra weight. As this is something to play around with none of the S cass features really mattered so out they go. this is ann older photo but the door trims and carpets are no longer there.

OK so it was time for the engine to come out and change to a 60-2 flex plate and modify turbo manifolds that I purchased from Clayton (bahaimus) that was originaly for his twin turbo setup.

After days of batteling with cutting and welding, I finally got it sorted and together nicely.

Ok just a few days ago got the engine back into its home and started on the intercooler piping

Ok so this is where im at now, I have the next 2 weeks to get as much as I can get done before im off holidays and start work again.

cheap chinese turbo my friend ran one of those for 4 years without a problem on his car, if you are using one of those do yourself a favour and clean it, they are not bad they tend to have dirt in them and metal bits in the housings, but this maybe something you already know.

No way would I ever advise to use a cheaper Chinese turbo I've been over this many times. If you pm me I will provide proof of the possible damage they can cause.

I will cut to the chase though & advise it can @ best stuff up itself creating a myriad of probs & @ worst damage your engine! If you think it can't/won't, better research what I am talking about. Go to the jJap performance forums & you'll very quickly be in the know.

Sorry buddy, I'd rather be known for facts then bad advice! If you can't afford a known brand or quality custom build, why not get a quality brand 2nd hand unit? Especially if it can be tested or from a trusted source? Better a 2nd hand Merc than a new Hyundai uh

I hear what your saying althou I didn't actually purchase this one on eBay. I got it from a well known performance shop here in WA and they all have been tested and I have seen them on many of their own cars and also gave me a 3 month warranty also!!

I would have certainly purchased a second hand well known turbo but Here in Perth no luck with such things. Even if they do come by, prices of the second hand stuff won't be far off to the new.

What they won't tell you is it won't last long 3 months is little security.

Yes true, some ask too much for 2nd hand stuff I agree but why don't you use the cheap one (for a limited time only) & maybe you'll see one on EBay or another online sale up ahead that someone doesn't want to use anymore? Maybe even a reco'd unit? Seen them come up now & then

Heck, I've sold a T03/4 hybrid a year ago that I had reco'd then ended up going for a bigger unit after speaking with a performance shop. But NO, I'm not selling my GT35R haha, even if it has sat for a year

I must say I can't wait to see this beasty up & running........

Torques what you need for the weight, as you've pointed out. That size turbo is nice for strong mid-high range power. Very nice!

I can see you've thought about air-flow in regards to the IC piping. Nice flowing bends. No sudden 90 degree bend @ the IC end tank or complicated joins. I'm having a hard time sorting the intake side, especially bends from intake manifold due to tb on the M103 being so low down.

Folk don't get to see the planning out that goes into these. Keep up the nice work bro & keep the pics coming haha

You cant really see in the PIC but I had to cut into the body a fair bit to try and get the IC piping as smooth as possible.
Ill have some more pics posted up soon. Ill be finishing the IC piping today, down pipe for the turbo and WG, and intake manifold adaptor for my new S14 TB.

Unfortunately I have been having problems with the megasquirt and Tunerstudio
as I was planning on istalling the ECU in, in the next few days..
I hope that this doesnt stop me from finishing the project off by end of next week. fingers crossed.
