No offense and I don't even mean this in a negative way, but the first thought I had was "Lexus".

I didn't say I didn't like it. I just know better than to say anything positive about a "you know what" in this forum. I 'm just partial to the eggcrate "Mercedes" look. I did see a grille on a website( can't remember where) of a 124 grille with a star in the middle that I liked. Wish I knew where it was.

I do not like the way it looks on a Mercedes W124, but of course it's only my own opinion, no bad intention on my comment.

I am sure that those grills look awsome in some specific applications. First thing that came to my mind is lowered pick-up trucks, Ford Expeditions or Cadillac Escalades with 22 inch chrome wheels.

I am looking all over for the avantgarde S600 style grill for my 300E. Currently there is one for auction on e-bay but after asking the seller about the quality of the item his answer was "average", which do not made me feel very confortable with it.

If you really want to change the looks of your grill, why don't you consider the S600 style ?

Join me and let's look for a good source of avantgarde grills for W124 86-93, like the one on the picture enclosed.

hey ernesto (hi-power)....

i'm in on the search with you then...although i haven't been able to find anything out there...ugh...

the billet thing i liked cause it was so strong looking...and i found a company that would custom make them...if we had enough orders in...
...hmmm maybe the billet would look good if it was a little more spaced out?

hmmm
well regardless...ernesto i'm in on the search....
p.s.
what an awesome looking 300E

Here is a mod I had on my grill at one time. It can be achieved a few ways. my way was just because I felt like it. SOme door edge moulding from pep boys that came in a 25 foot roll or something like that. I just cut it to length and stuck it on. Looked pretty cool, but the quality of the door edge moulding started to wear after a few months.

You can do this however using factory horizontal strips just pushed onto the grill itself. they should stay on with no problems.

Hey rich, Let me know what you think. This is cheap and easy to do. even the factory strips are not expensive at all.

I like the avantgard one that ernesto posted.

Here is another idea of mine, that may sound crazy, but it looks really cool.

I don't have a pic.. sorry but imagine this:

Grill shell color matched to the car... that is black color for me. The insert is painted with a silver paint that ends up looking just like aluminum. The insert strips are also painted black to match the grill shell.

The result, an aluminum looking grill in a black grill frame. When I painted my grill with some dark charcoal paint that I thought was the color of my car, which it was, originally, I painted the old insert this silver aluminum finish. When pieced together, it looked really really cool.

When I paint my shell black again, I'm going to put this together, and you will see something really really sweet looking.
