M104 in W111

My Goal is to swap a 3.2L M104 into my fintail. I have not done any engine swaps so far, so I need a bit (a lot) help.

My thought is I need spare 320, either a R129 or W124. I will take out the engine and wiring harness. Then I would like to manual swap the M104. For the engine management I will go with Megasquirt, since its cheap and easy.

So what I would need is a parts car, manual transmission plus adapter, custom driveshaft, motor/ transmission mount and exhaust, correct?
What manual transmission would work, I know the dogleg would fit right up w/o any modification, but they are difficult to find (and expensive).

Any help appreciated, Thanks

My fintail is already manual, so I do not need any pedals, etc.

I'd put the fintail next to the donor car and make basic measurements to determine what will fit without modification. The finny will have a very narrow engine compartment. The newer engine will have accessories up front such as ac compressor and power steering. The oil filter is another potential source of interference and the steering box.

Good idea though.

Probably easier to find a different car with equipment the way you want it and sell the finney to a finney lover.

My Fintail doesn't have AC or PS, so that won't be a problem
There have already been a few M104 into W108, which have the same engine compartment. So It will fit.

Don't bother with a manual, it will take lots of work and $$$ .

Find a 97 E320 / 97 - 99 S320 with full electronic throttle / full electronic shift 722.6 / metal key. This has the throttle cable leading to a throttle position sensor on the left inner fender. A 97 C280 would work but is 2.8 L / the 97 SL320 would work but may prove difficult to find as only about 1,200 cars made their way to the US.

You will need the engine ECU , DAS box behind the instrument cluster and RFID key all from the same car to make this run. You will need the trans computer / shifter and ABS computer. Other than powers and grounds, a wheel speed signal that matches the donor cars differential will need to be fed into the ABS computer so the trans computer can function.

Look at my posts in this thread. https://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-performance-paddock/389146-setting-up-m104-722-6-run-swap.html

I also had posts in another thread but can't find them.

the manual transmission is really easy for a 104. you don't need any adapters or anything just get a slk230 or c230K transmission off of ebay. the m111 shares the bell housing and flywheel bolt pattern so you can also get a m111 single mass flywheel conversion kit off ebay. that should be all you need to put a manual behind a 104.

Somewhere along the way the slk230 / c230K or similar got an engine that stood up rather than leaning over to the right. Mixing the two would cause the shifter to lean over too.

the mounting angle change was in the 203 chassis. that mostly came with the m271 engine which still shared the bell housing for a few years and the 6 speed behind it is much stronger. the shifter assy for the 6 speed is a semi remote single rod type. its quite easy to shim the shift mount to change the angle to fit whatever you're putting it into.
