Hello, all!
I just spent all day installing and fine-tuning/tweaking my Spal electric puller-fan and Derale adjustible thermostat mods in my 500E; everything is working PERFECTLY!!! I have posted pictures to my website, though I will update them, most likely, in the next 2 weeks. All I'm missing now is my fuse-box lid... but I didn't want Thomas Queen/Feather Carbon to sweat it... no problem. Many thanks to Neil V. for his pictures, patience, and expertise - and everyone else who contributed to this thread; I MOST appreciate it! Keep your cool, Last edited by run.exe; 12-03-2002 at 04:27 AM. |

CHECK YOUR FUSE HOLDER AND RELAY
After 8-years in service, the relay went bad. And boy was it hot, when it stopped working. I now carry a spare relay. This was about 6-months ago.
Today, I noticed at a stop that there was smoke under the hood, so I shut down, and armed myself with my halogen fire extinguisher. After waiting 2-minutes the smoke stopped, and I popped/release (not opened) the hood, to see if there was going to be basically a back-draft event. No flames, no more smoke. So I opened the hood up, and found the fuse holder was MELTED/BURNT. No shorts, no other damage, but the Bussman ATC 30-amp heavy-duty fuse-holder was toast- literally! I had a spare 30-amp Mercedes strip-fuse holder, and installed that, and all is well, but I'm going to watch this one . . . :-) neil |

Well since this thread popped up again and it relates to JimF's cool harness modification, I'll post my question here. I've done the modification 190e 2.6 where I got rid of the viscous clutch fan and added a parallel resistor to the blue 2 pin temperature sensor to change the trigger temp from the stock aux fans from 105c to ~90c. The original article takes the trigger temp from the S500 from 100c to 92c with an 1100 ohm resistor.
http://www.k6jrf.com/MB_CTS.html I'm trying to find a resistance vs temperature graph for this temperature sensor. In my case, I think a 700 ohm resistor seems to work but with a temp/resistance chart I could make it more accurate. I would really appreciate it if anybody can post the graph for this sensor. thanks Justin
