Lightbulb 500E/E500 Samco Sport Silicone Hoses (UK): *PLEASE HELP!*

For whatever (bizarre) reason, Samco Sport Silicone Hoses does *NOT* currently offer product for Mercedes-Benz! BOGUS !!!

I am hoping to change that, ASAP.

As I am certian we all agree, one-offing parts is financially prohibitive for all but the world's wealthiest jet-setters; therefore, I am hoping to present a "strength in numbers" proposal to Samco's sales office, in hopes that they will re-tool/alter their prodution line to include Mercedes-Benz in their product offerings.

To this end, I am requesting that any/all interested mercedesshop.com and ///benzsport.com members (especially 500E/E500/M119 types) who read this thread e-mail me the following data, so that I may be armed with some concrete numbers with which I may attempt to persuade Samco to get with the (MBZ) program:

1) your name
2) your e-mail address
3) your Mercedes-Benz model and year
4) your written permission to forward data items #1-3 to Samco

My e-mail address is: nemo@nemonis.net

I am in the process of having a "one-against-the-wilderness" quote (i.e. - just me, by myself, with no "group buy" leverage) sent to me.

I am anticipating it to be prohibitively expensive (tooling costs, etc.); this is why I need my fellow Mercedes-Benz enthusiats' help!

It would probably have a positive effect upon Samco executives if everyone who reads this post e-mails them, asking about their lack of Mercedes products!

Any/all UK friends - if you could inquire, locally, that would be MOST appreciated!

The USA distributor for Samco (Brits, in Sonoma, CA) needs me to FedEx them an OEM (MBZ) cooling-hose kit so that, in turn, Brits can FedEx everything to the UK for a formal estimate (inefficient, yes - but they would not agree to using digital photography).

These hoses kick @55 - and I neeeeeeeeeeeed them for my car, ASAP!!! They run rings around the OEM rubber offerings (which wear out, by design)!

>>PLEASE HELP: DOING SO WILL BENEFIT US ALL IN THE LONG RUN!<<

Thank you very much for your cooperation and assistance.

I am hoping a significant number of us contact Samco...

Most sincerely,

Scott- the only hoses I would consider making out of silicone or Goodyear Super "Hi-Miller" would be the following in importance:

1) the two hoses that leave the REAR of the engine (one to the heater-core, the other to the windshield-washer resevoir heating system);

2) the three hoses in the radiator, with the lower hose with molded by-pass being the most important; then the "thermostat" hose; followed by the upper-radiator hose.

BTW- any progress on this?

Take care,
:-) neil

Unhappy update

Neil:

Unfortunately, due to little/no response from my fellow W124-036-ers, this prospective project has gone nowhere...

Scott...don't give up just yet.

This is a good idea....Samco hoses are supposedly top notch and appear very robust (at least they do in person on an Audi S6). The 'Red' hoses on this particular modded turbo car readily handles 22 psi of boost, where as the stock ones just blow apart while trying to keep up with a 500E (hehe) They must be able to fend off a M119s heat better than stock...wouldn't you think?

Any ball-park of a price or color too? My choice would be plain black....or maybe CF

Thumbs down colors

Almost any color would be available; the critical, prerequisite necessity is for 20 of us to step up and make this happen.

So far, I have 3 volunteers.

Scott- do you think we would get more people wanting silicone hoses, IF it was only for the two hoses exiting the rear of the engine?

IMHO, these are the most important two that not only are "baked" but are subject to vibration.

I guess color really doesn't matter that much....I figured if they made a run of 15 or 20 sets, they would be all one color. Super if we could each get a color we wanted.

Let us know how it goes...and thanks much for your legwork !

update

The incurred expense for SAMCO is R&D - mostly tooling up for the new hoses. As of this writing, they only have Audi, VW, and BMW parts - to the best of my knowledge.

They need 20+ participants because they have to spend "approximately $5000 USD" to ramp up for production.

I have bought a *complete* set of (9) rubber cooling hoses for the 500E/E500 (for roughly $300) from a local dealership. The next step, after obtaining a list of committed participants, is for me to send my hoses to the UK so that they can be used for molds.

Scott,

If you don't mind, would you post the PNs of the hoses? I'll have Phil double check before sending them to me as I hear that the hoses have gone through a lot of supercessions. It would be nice to have a sort of base to start from though...

I was thinking of doing all the hoses, wiring, timing chain and what not as I'm going to be "separated" from the car for at least 8 months...

Thanks!

The PN#'s Scott listed is for his particular 500E.

Depending on VIN#, there are different heater hoses.
