Talking New addition to the stable ...

YAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

After much research, sleepless nights, and luck, I'm picking up a '92 500E this weekend. Driving him back from Dallas to the West Coast. He is black pearl, black interior, has 70,000 miles and is unmolested. After reading what everyone has done to their 500E500's, I can't wait to start improving mine.

The Passport 8500 is in on it's way, so I'll have some protection too. I am so stoked!!!

Carlsbad to San Juan Capistrano in 15 minutes (if the border check is open)! And we have such NICE twisty roads around here. Do bring it to a GTG so we can set it next to Glen's silver 500E.

Norman,

Congrats! I know you won't stop smiling on that drive home. Especially through the northwest corner of Texas, it's hilly, the roads are nice and there's hardly any traffic. Nice change of pace from the I-5.

So everyone, when will there be another GTG, it's been a while and I'm wondering if anyone else is interested?

Afshin:

I agree, it is time for a GTG. Want to start a new thread and ask for a 'sticky' to hold it at the top? Find out where everyone wants to meet?

Texas to California

Isn't that a 1,500 mile perfectly straight road? Isn't the speed limit Mach 1 on that road

GTG

I missed the last couple of GTG's, so I'm ready! As usual, Sunday works best for me but I can probably make it work on a Saturday too. Let's do this as soon as possible, as the holidays approach we're all going to be really busy! Also, I don't mind driving up to an hour or more (esp. if on Sunday) if that makes it easier.

John: what mall parking structure did we go to about a year ago? That worked out very well.

Afshin: I mentioned to Norman offline that we should meet up after he gets back from Texas...just something casual...at a local park or something, what do you think?

Be careful out there...

I've done exactly the same drive when I picked up my 500e from Austin to Scottsdale. Carry a V1, West Texas area highway patrol needs that revenue, don't ask me how I know.

Once you cross into AZ, just past the border around Wilcox, is another spot.

The Southwest is one of the best areas to experience what these cars are designed for, high speed cruising, with relatively little traffic to worry about.

Congrats, was this the one at Park Place?

Thanks everyone! I can't stop smiling!

JCE: I can't wait to cruise the Ortega Highway with you.

E DREAM: My wife is already commenting about my constant grin ... still going strong

Willie: I just picked up the Escort Passport 8500 for the trip. I had (have) a V1 ... it needs to be repaired. I chose the 8500 over the V1 due to independent tests, and it's ability to be integrated with Escort's Laser Shifter (ZR3). I'll let you know how the 8500 performs when I get back. Thanks for telling me about the "hot" spots. I bought him at Auto Sports of Dallas. He was listed on eBay, didn't meet the reserve, so after the auction, I negotiated with the Dealer after doing some research. My MBZ dealer in Carlsbad (Hoehn) helped me out with a VMI.

Glen: See you soon.

Jim: I have about 1100 miles of pure enjoyment before me!

GTG.....

JCE, I'll look for your post, I think we can definitely get a good turnout!

Glen,

Let me know where and when yourself and Norman meet, I'd definitely like to meet up. I still find my way to Carlsbad quite often so no big deal, should be a fun drive through Gopher Canyon Rd!
