I am looking to see if there are any c class performance and driving enthusiasts on this board. I almost want to start a club or webpage as there are none out there. The mercedes club is just too boring, I want a mercedes club that actually goes to the track and puts there cars through the works. Any of you interested in this post some ideas, especially anyone in Washinton as that is where I am at, I would be very interested in putting together a club in the area but don't know if I will find the interest, I don't know, what do you guys think?

Where are you located? I'm in Lakewood and haven't seen many posts from Washington.
I think a web page is a step in the right direction as there are not to many out there for the C class. What did you have in mind as far as performance driving? I know that the SCCA usually has 1 to 2 events going on locally to the larger metro areas. Now that is a Blast!! Ross ------------------ 96 C280 |

Well I have been to some of the events, I have been to autocrosses (haven't used my c class yet), and have dragged my car at SIR (I use the word drag lightly, just wanted to get the quarter mile, got 16 seconds even with my subs in the back, not too bad for any auto). I mean I just think it would be nice to have a local mercedes club that is not only into the cars but into maintaining them (not very realistic, but little things) or at least modding them for performance and driving them for what they should be for. What type of car do you have? There are a lot of scca events around but I never see any mercedes at them, and I would like to change that (some 16 valve 190E's maybe, but besides that). Any ideas? Email me if you like.

Though I can't truly speak for him I would guess that Noah is an avid W202 enthusiast (aka rabid) I know for a fact that I am as well. Though no auto-x or road course track time yet, I have run the C36 in the 1/4, and a bunch of G-tech runs. Best time of 13.9@104.2 on one 35 degree night. Most of the time a good run is in the 14.2-14.4 range with trap speeds being 101-103mph. When it gets above 75 degrees with high humidity times fall to around 14.5-14.7 with trap speeds in the 98-100mph range. 0-60 times (g-tech measured) are 5.5 to 6.4 weather and launch surface depending. Braking from 60mph (again G-tech measured) is in the 109-115 feet range with decelerative forces being .98 to 1.02g's. Have not tested lateral acceleration yet. BTW, the car seems gear limited to 155mph.
I'll agree that the local MBCA chapter is a bit too sleepy for my tastes. If anyone reading this wants to schedule something I'm open to it. The dragstrip in Commerce GA has Friday "grudgematch" night. Pretty much a "run whacha brung" kind of thing with normal runs and bracket/eliminator racing later in the evening. Anyone care to go up there and give the local bubbas a hard time? Lee |

Yeah, Lee is right. I'm a C-class enthusiast. I love my C43 and have had great fun in the C230K (the C280 leaves me wanting more). I autocross my car everychance i get and chase down everything i can on the off-ramps. I too found "STAR" abit old for my taste and let my membership lapse. If you're in the NY area you should come to some SCCA or BMWCCA autocross events. At least you'll see my car hurtling around the course pitched at all kinds of crazy angles with the engine screaming loader than the tires. To keep the mercedes pride going, last year i beat every BMW at a BMWCCA event (damn mazda's beat me though.)
Email me if you have questions. ------------------ Noah 1999 C43 4Noah |
