I found a '92 500E for sale locally. I haven't seen the car in person, but the ad says it has 68K miles and is in "mint condition". The car is black on black. They're asking $23,000. Based on what I've seen so far this price looks too good to be true. If the car checks out, should I jump all over it?

After you pay the dealer to inspect it and check out the title, if everything is clean and the dealer suggest only minor things need to be done, hell yes!!
![]() Just get it check out. When we buy cars, we always suggest the person selling the car to pay for it, and if we purchase the car, we will deduct that much of the selling price (usually about $125.) If the sellers hesitates, then he probably has something to hide. If he agrees, He has othing to hide and even if he ends up paying for it and you don't purchase, he can always use that reports to sell the car. ------------------ Chirag (Charlie) Patel - 99 Mercedes-Benx ML 430 V8 w/custom TV, Video, UHF, speaker system - 93 190E 2.6 (4-sale) w/ an amp, equalizer, and CD-changer, integrated w. stock stereo for integrated cellular phone speaker system - had a 93 190E m103 3.2, 5-speed trans, - had a 88 300E 2.6 - had a 84 300TD w/275k+ miles - 2001 C-Class - Maybe (if 190E sells) |

That sounds like a very good price, almost what you'd expect to pay for a mint 400E. You'll be able to tell if its a real 500E just by matching up the picks and stuff from the featured car page, and of course the vin.
It's a steal at that price! |

Get the VIN, then run a Carfax report (or something similar though a dealer friendly to you). You could also post the VIN and let us see what it tells. That price sounds too good to be true. I would suspect frame damage and/or odo rollback at that level. Have a competant professional check it out for you. Paint, panels, VIN check, mechanicals, service history, etc. If it is a 92 500E and has not been hit every panel (bumper, fenders, door, trunk, etc) should have a MB sticker with the VIN on it. The numbers should match and be 500E VINs.
Best of luck...let us know how it turns out. Hope this helps...Lee |

Thanks for the replies guys, alas, it wasn't meant to be. Someone else beat me to it, the car is already sold. I'll continue to keep my eyes open for any other smokin' deals!
