500E On The Dyno..........
Here are a few results of a Dyno day held on Saturday the 15th. The type of Dyno used is a Mustang Dyno which I've heard is one of the "Most Honest" Dyno's regarding Hp and Torque.
Just as a comparison a 1997 BMW M3 with aftermarket intake and exhaust posted these results. Hp = 200 1/4 Mile = 13.9 Seconds I think some of my numbers are accurate and others are a bit optimistic......but not too optimistic. Test 1: Hp = 247.3 @ 5900RPM Torque = 255.4 @ 4400RPM Test 2: Hp = 247.4 Hp @ 5900 RPM Torque = 257.1 @ 4400 RPM As you can see the car performed nearly identical for both runs. The car never really got hot and floated around 95C the whole time. I believe these results are accurate and overall transmission losses were equivalent to about 23%. Now for the crazy 1/4 Mile Times! Test 1: I loaded up the torque converter to 3000 RPM and stepped off the brake. I let the car shift itself. 1/4 = 14.46 / Trapspeed 103 MPH 0 - 62 = 6.218 Test 2: I loaded up the torque converter to 3500RPM and stepped of the brake. I let the car shift itself again. 1/4 = 14.19 / Trapspeed 104 MPH 0 - 62 = 5.778 Test 3: This time I didn't load up the torque converter and just dropped the hammer! 1/4 = 13.11 / Trapspeed 111 0 - 65 = 5.4 I think all the numbers are about .5 seconds optimistic. Keep in mind this Dyno does compensate for wind resistance, drag and many other forces in the real world. Now I'm dying to see the results on a realy 1/4 mile run!

We have run quite a few 500E's in the quarter. When stock, they will run in the low 14's. If all is perfect, a 13.9 is all you can get.
The speed will be right at 100mph.

Benzmac,
I don't doubt your numbers at all, I'd like to think that everything is perfect. What type of Dyno do you use just for comparison's sake.

This is on the drag strip. Not the dyno.

Donnie,
That makes sense, I know reaction time and ideal conditions play a huge roal in 1/4 Mile times. In my case the car's ASR was disabled but because of the Dyno's surface I didn't experience any wheel spin which I'm sure helped the numbers. I also don't know what percentage the Dyno adds to the times to compensate for reaction time. I guess the only way to really find out is to get the car out on a drag strip.

Afshin,
Is your car fully stock? If not what mods does the car have? What size wheels and tires?

vcci,
My engine is 100% stock. I use Amsoil 10W40 Synthetic, Redline water wetter in the coolant and had new plugs installed. I have factory chrome wheels with Bridgestone SO2 tires. Eventually I want to get the Carlsson's below or the EVOII's.

EvoII! Go EvoII!!
Just my opinion, but those rims look kinda busy and delicate. The 500E is a monolith of a car and would look a little odd on spindly rims because visually, it looks odd to have something so delicate looking support something with as much "visual mass" as a W124 500E. It would kinda look like Ah-nold with super skinny legs.

I've run 13.8 @ 101 & change. Real cold day, nice dense air.
And reaction time has nothing to do with E.T - but you'll loose the race!

E55Jay,
Well I do have the Dyno time slips if that's what your referring to. I'd have to scan them in, or if you prefer email your fax number and I'll fax them to ya! In all honesty I know the MPH figures don't look right and if the Dyno wasn't calibrated correctly they won't be perfectly correct. But IMO I think I can achieve a 13.8 on a 1/4 mile run similar to Michaels times. I saw some recent posts on MBWorld and I've seen some of the E55 time slips, don't worry your still ahead. I think the point I'm really trying to make is the factory was too conservative with their original figures and better times are easily possible.
