Hey all,
Thanks for being patient with me and my slow way of doing things. After balancing time between school and work, I've finally been able to complete the installation of my Mosselman turbo system for my '86 190E 2.3-16V. Let me tell you this first. I'm going to have a complete write up on the 190 Revolution website for installation and things and I'm going to borrow my buddies Gtech pro meter to get some performance numbers out of the car. But don't worry, I'm going to fill you guys in on some early info. so you don't have to wait until the update of the site. The kit was a pain in the @$$ to install. I'm fairly good at mechanics and the like but this was one of the biggest jobs i've stepped up to. The reason was not b/c the kit was bad. It had all the parts necessary and most everything fit. The kit was very detailed and it is one of the most complete and best turbo kits I've seen. However, I had problems fitting the downpipe on the turbine housing and I had to re-weld the Intercooler tubing in order for it to fit to the throttle body housing. What a job. I had to re-route some vacuum lines that the turbo kit came with because of the motor mount being in the way. This re-routing utilized 90 degree tubes in order to bend around the motor mount. I wasn't expecting this job to be that easy, but to say the least, it was harder than it should've been. However, after all is said and done....the performance changes are a night and day difference. Folks, you won't believe how this 16V forces your ass in the seat. The exciting thing is, is i'm only running 5.5psi. The turbo is a T3 garret turbo so the boost starts around 3K RPM. After 3K, you better hold on. One example would be on the highway I was cruising about 60MPH and came up on this car going maybe 55MPH..so I decide to pass him. I just kept it in 5th and put the gas down about 3/4 of the way and a split second later I can hear the turbo singing making that supersonic high pitch (like the sound of a 747 jets kicking in) That thing was putting me in my seat going 60MPH. I hit 90 before I knew what happened. Wow.....I'm just very excited right now. I can't wait to get some real numbers down. But also note that I rode in a buddies 1995 M3 the other day and he gunned it.....that car is very fast. it put me in my seat and the engine sounds very nice. Of course it is what 3.6L??? and it has a 6 cyl. DOHC 24V engine with a 10.5:1 comp ratio...so it should be pretty fast. I gave him a little ride in my 16V turbo to return the favor and I saw him gripping the handles really good. He was very impressed and said that my 16V would definantly hang with his M3. Of course, the M3 gets the 16V early with the loads of torque it has, but after that turbo kicks in, I believe the 16V would hang w/ the M3. I still have my stock 2 1/4" exhaust too. I can't wait until I convert to a 3" exhaust to get that turbo to respond faster. I've got more upgrades coming and I'm very enthused about it. I'll keep everyone posted and get some pics soon. Let me know if you want a Mosselman turbo as well.
Regards,
Clinton Davis
