Help! Tow Hook (RED) for cars that are difficult to tie down
Hello,
I have seen these red tow hook (eyelets) where someone can hook a chain to, such that they can tie down a very low car to a trailer or a tow truck with a flat bed. I woud like some help to locate these. See the attached picture on the front bumper of this 190E EVOII. I can scan a picture of it on a CLK GTR if you need. Thanks, Austin

OBX tow hook set for less than 50 bucks shipped. What do you think of the quality? They come in blue, silver and red.

The SCCA rules require that our performance rally 190E have tow hooks both front and rear, so that we can get pulled out of the ditch if/when we go off the road at speed. I simply had someone weld extensions onto the stock tow hooks (see images) but I'm worried that they might pull out if we're really stuck because there isn't much meat under them. Those OBX units look great, but how do they attach to the body?

The factory "tow hooks" on a 190E are really for just pulling it along an assembly line flat surface. Be careful.
I got an obx one on order, I will see how it is. I can always duplicated it out of steel or modify it. I just needed a starting point.

Hey, I really don't think the factory uses the hooks for "pulling the car along the line".
They are used for Shipping tie-downs. You'll see them on any vehicle which comes here on a ship! Welding on the end is not a good idea as a structural analysis engineer. You increase the bending moment(leverage at the joint). They were designed for a certain pull angle(mostly down). You could get a big side load pulling out of the ditch and need to make sure it's braced in all 3 planes with a good load path. Michael

They do not use the tow hooks for pulling the cars alon ghte assembly line.
What do you think they do when there is no subframe and no wheel/tires ![]() As for the ships, I don't think that they tie the cars down on the ships either. The usually drive them into place, like on a ferry, or put them in cargo containers. E-brakes are fine. I have never seen them unstrapping cars from the decks in Vancouver. Could you imagine the amount of straps required for 1000+ vehicles. If you look in the manual, they are using for towing or removing vehicle which are midly stuck. Ever wonder why the front tow hook in on the passengers side and the rear tow hook in on the passengers side? When you tow another vehicle, the hooks are on the same side, making it easier to tow with a shorter line. That is exactly what they are for.
