I was reading somewhere ( could have been European Car ) and saw a quick blurb about an amg 4 valve conversion to bring the performance up to the level of newer engines . Sounded sort of like the bekker's kit . Is anthing like this still avilable , specificly for a 90 560SEL . Any idea where I might find it .Renntech has some mods , Barubus , amg , ect. seem to only have things for the newest model cars .Thanks

Back when AMG was selling the 4-cam engine kits for the W126 500SEL, it cost around $18,000 to $22,000 just for the parts. I'm sure the stuff is still available...and still just as expensive.
There were several companies making headers a few years back in the "D&W" Parts catalog available from Ron's Parts in B.C.(Canada). That may be a more cost-effective route to more performance.

Most of the upgrades I know of would cost more or as much as selling the 560 and buying a newer/faster car. If you just love the 560 then go for the upgrades. But many modified cars can be a real pain to sell, service, etc. It is something to consider...

Renntech's pricing is so outlandish that it becomes better economic sense to trade up. Unless you are building something so "out there" that it never had a factory version. Krahe's W124 5-speed 2.6 liter twin turbo that he is considering making a 3.6 twin-turbo comes to mind.

I'm not sure if Mosselman (now Lorinser owned) ever did any forced induction for the 560SEL but it might be worth a call. Also, Benzmac has told me a NOS kit works wonders on that engine. If used in moderation (like turbo boost) you shouldn't blow the motor to bits. You could probably get a NOS kit up-n-running for about $1000. At sale time just pull it out at a fraction of the labor of the other upgrades. Just an idea...

Hope this helps...Lee

Thanks Lee and Durrance . A NOS kit ? Is this akin to a turbo/supercharger ? That sounds more affordable than rebores and the like . Any idea on what kind of gain might be possible , and how much extra wear would you think would be added to the engine ? Headers and a chrome exaust (supersprint?)would be nice. Any ideas for suspention or other mods ( anti-roll bars ,Ect. ). Thanks again for the response .

NOS is Nitrous Oxide. It is a compressed gas that is injected with the fuel/air intake charge. Think of it as "turbo boost in a can". The canisters are depleteable, but the cost of install is much less. As far as how it affects the engine longevity. There it is also similar to turbo boost. If you use too much boost OR NOS you will blow up your motor. Because it is so easy to get more HP with NOS people have been known to go overboard. I suspect that is the basis of much of its bad reputation. Figure out how much more power your drivetrain can take, then dial that much NOS in. Plus, when you don't want the gonzo power just a toe-tap away (or better fuel economy) you just turn the NOS system off. Nitrous certainly isn't for everyone, but it can be a good alternative to turbo's or superchargers if cost/underhood clearance are issues.

Hope this helps....Lee
