Cutting springs to lower

What are peoples feelings on cutting springs to lower a car? I have a 300e and was thinking of taking a set of 400e springs and cutting them to lower my car.

Good Idea or very bad?

I wonder if the 400E would be the right set to cut; perhaps the 500E or a set from a R129 SL.

Why not buy a set of Eibach springs off ebay?

By the time you get another stock set of springs and mess around cutting them down and refitting them you could have a set of professional springs installed.

Matt.
