Even More on 107 Rear Speaker/Stereo Upgrade

I am close to completing the installation of a upgraded stereo and CD changer, and wiring for rear speakers. I went with a Blaupunkt Orlando radio/cassette, and an A071 CD changer.

The Orlando is actually a '90's unit, but it looks compatible and will probably get past the club-level judges. The changer will live in the trunk in the well by the first aid kit. It will be secured by a custom-made foam pad that will surround it in the well. When the time comes to be original, out come the pad and the unit and the cable goes behind the carpet.

The right side rear speaker wire and the CD cable run under the glove box, down behind the kick panel, under the sill cover and into the plenum behind the rear panel. The speaker wire goes under the seat, and will be eventually be connected to the removable truck boxes.

The CD cable continues to the trunk, following the vacuum lines for the gas door and the trunk lock. It is a pretty good trick to pull the CD cable because it has a good sized connector on the end. If anyone needs help on this, send me an email and I'll provide the details.

The left side speaker wiire follows the same path, only on the left side. It is a bit more trouble because the hood release mechanism needs to come out to remove the kick panel.

There is more room than I expected behind the rear panel, including a triangular cutout that provides some extra space.

There was nothing difficult about running the wiring, but it did take me about four hours, and I can see why a shop would want a surcharge for an install in a 107.

Here is a picture of the CD unit. Radio and and rear area in separtate posts.
