Tech time to install rebuilt trans on 450sl

Any guestimate on tech time to install a newly rebuilt trans into a 78 450sl. Debating having a rebuild done at a shop, versus buying a rebuilt trans and having it installed. Can get one for $1195, plus $300 shipping (to shop and return of core). That would put me at $1495 plus install charge. Quoted at $2200-2500 locally. Will I save a few hundred $, or am I going through all this work for a break-even cost? Thanks.

Brian

labor guide

i have a mercedes labor time guide, it says R&R trans for model 107 is 7.2 hours. if any one is interested in obtaining the labor guide i have, please send me an email. and i will email it to you. all i ask is please provide feedback about the times that are given. it is a program that works basically like the mercedes microfiche, but is a program for the computer. i tried to post it, but it was too large for the site.

auto transmission 107 installation costs etc.

It all starts with negotiation, negotiation, first try for mechanic price at mercedes dealer for rebuilt unit. Then work out installation costs with transmission shop (about $400) If mercedes dealer is reasonably close to trans shop, they will deliver and pickup old unit, at no cost. Cost for mecedes unit about $1600 plus 400 equals total approx $2000. I have paid $2500 in past for inferior unit. good luck, AbeG

tech time toinstall rebuilt trans on 450sl

I had a rebuilt tranny done by Lee Myles for $3642.00 and I am still havuing problems. The one thing I've learned is if they don't do or have Mercedes on their lot then they dont and can't do Mercedes!

Just had tranny rebuilt for $1800 which included replacing rear main engine seal. Haven't driven it long enough to comment on the quality of the repair.
