R129 ripping soft top sound...

i guess that all R129 owners have experienced the awkward & embarrasing ripping sound when the soft top is released / opened.

for few seconds you think that the car is being ripped apart..

is there any solution to that? other (german) cabrios are considerably quiter when soft top is released.

It's pretty normal. At first I put molly lube on the windshield locks thinking they were sticking, but it didn't make any difference. When those locks release, it sounds like your windshield is being pulled out of the car. Ignore the sound and enjoy the sun!

Ripping sound? Are we discussing the 'pop' 'pop' sound of the hydraulic latches releasing - or something I'm missing?

indeed, it's this 'POP' 'POP' 'POP' (note the capitals...) sound - and we are talking about the top of the line mercedes cabrio that it used to be...

porsche 911's soft top release is considerably quieter.
