Need how to help with 560SL seat removal.
I need to remove the passenger seat and can see the bolts holding it but have noticed a heavy spring that stretches from the seat to the body cross frame. Can anyone tell me how this scenario works out for removal? Thanks.

Don't do it!!!
Don't take that spring off, take it from me, you'll be #@#$ at it trying to get it back on. After you remove your bolts, slide your seat back towards the rear of the car. The cross bar will disengage from the slots under the seat, leaving the bar and spring attached. The bar is also bolted to the car frame, don't take those bolts out either. Just remove the two or three bolts in the rear on each side and the front bolt.
Moving your seat to it's highest position will help disengage it. While you have it out, you might want to go to your MB dealer and order the plastic slides, what they call battery seal (rubber that goes in the slides) and new springs for the ratchet assy. Clean everything up, I used brake cleaner, and use some white lube when you reassemble. It will be like a new seat.

Glad I asked for help..
before going any further. If not cautioned by you I would probably have gone ahead and removed the lot and learned the hard way. Your additional suggestions also noted and will do. What do you mean by white lube? Vaseline? Your comments were greatly appreciated, thank you.

Use the right grease (not vaseline) - many ordinary greases act like a dirt manget and will quickly turn into a hardened mass of dirty hairy clumps.

Re:89 560 SL seat............I've noticed...
way underside of the seat an electrical wire connection? my seats are not heated. The wire is very light gauge and looks like a 'pull apart connector'
Anybody knows what it is for before I disconnect it ?? thanks.

White lube?
How about "Siloo" White Lube, all purpose white lithium grease. or "Lubriplate"

There are so many "Lubriplates" to choose from. I used white lithium grease myself but cleaned the tracks well before re-applying. Like a new seat.
While the seats are out, it would be a good idea to replace the small springs on the up/down ratcheting mechanism. About $3 each at the dealer. This mechanism should be cleaned and re-lubed as well.
