560sl sign position

Hi,

Would any of 560sl owners be so kind to look at their 560sl chrome sign position on the cars trunk. I have repainted my car and only remember that it was glued on the passangers side of the trunk.

I need 560sl signs position dimensions from left side and from the bottom. Actually where those two dimension meet each other at the beginning of the number 5 of the sign 560sl.You may give me the dimensions in inches I will convert them into centimeters.

Thank you very much in advance!

Balsa

I just measured mine and the chrome underline is 1 3/4" from the left and bottom of the trunk. Both measurements are the same. Hope that helps.

From the "for what its worth dept"...

It may be urban legend, but it has been recorded that when a dealer/MB approved body shop repaints a 107, the emblem gets moved to the right side (when viewed from the rear), or passenger side to us yanks in the US.

Is there a source for that. I never saw a 560SL with the script on the right side. I don't think the body shops would do it on purpose

if you dont already have it on there then the holes for the pegs on the back of the script must be filled in.

in that case if it were mine i would just leave the script off cause when you drill the holles you will create a place for rust to start. and i wouldnt try to just glue the metal script on. i think it will just fall off and leave a blemish.

I have seen SL's with the emblem on the passenger side. Looks funny and gets me thinking the car or the rear of the car was reapainted or damaged.

Mine was definitely painted and the emblem was on the right, fastened with adhesive. I took it off.

Yeah, mine is on the right side, and so were two others I looked at (that had been repainted, at least partially)when I was in the market. I have seen it in print in the hallowed halls of newsgroups like these, and had it told to me verbatim by the owner of one of those cars (who was the one who comissioned the respray via an MB shop). Does this mean it is true? Not at all, but it does seem to be supported by anecdotal reports. Otherwise, every one that I have seen repainted was put on wrong, which defies random circumstances.

Regardless, ctaylor handled it best... I intend to remove mine and the CHMSL as soon as I save enough scratch to comission the job, as well as a respray of the "keyed" hood on mine. @%$&%*#^%) vandals!
