Wipers travel only part way. Travel is better during heavy rain but then loud popping noise from linkage. How much trouble is this to fix, is linkage available separately or only with motor assembly. Does dash have to be removed, (one mechanic said so) or is access available through engine compartment.
thanks
Tom

Hi Tom.

I have an '81, although the wipers are working fine. I don't know the answer to your question, but if you haven't yet found one, you might want to try the Mercedes Mailing List as well (www.mercedesmailinglist.com). Although not SL-specific, it's thick with folks with a fair amount of technical knowledge.

Good luck.

Wipers are now fixed. The nut holding the arm mechanism came loose. It was originaly welded to the bracket. Hans here in Houston managed by removing duct work, instrument cluster etc get a selflocking nut on it. Other option was to remove the dash, no... or cut a hole under the grill on top of the hood...no.

thanks for your reply.
