M120 V-12 into Red or Black 560SL
I have two 560SL and 1 M120 V12 engine. My original plan was to put the V-12 into the red one since it was more of a Ferrari V-12 scheme. But I like black so much more. Since the car will be for sale once complete it is best for me to put the V-12 engine into the car that will make the most money. I tend to think of such a muscle car as more approriate in black.
The other thing I need to consider is that the red one absolutly needs a paint job. The Black one only needs a paint job to get it to concourse quality for sale, so in a sense it would be a wast to repaint the black one. The cars currently have names: Black - Sadie Red - SadieInRed. When the engine is swaped the names will be changed to. 5.6L V8 - Beauty 6.0L v12 - The Beast Here again I think Beauty should be red and The Beast should be black. So please let me know your preference Do you prefer a Red V12 Black V12 John Roncallo |

If I were to keep one, it'd be the black 560SL.
With that said, do the V-12 on the red one, and repaint it to whatever color matches the Beast. Sure will be fun to watch you posting as the project progresses along... |

Did you think about the harness and ECU's that would have to go with the
V12? The project will take more money than buying a real V12. I would think twice before getting into this... Good luck anyway

If I were going to go swapping a V12 into anything, I would just go with a good standalone system. They have many these days that can handle a 12 cylinder system easily. It would be a lot easier to wire up than an OEM system, and a lot of the ultra rare, ultra expensive Mercedes electronics would be replaced by simpler, cheaper, and easier to obtain parts. Or maybe just run 2 Megasquirts on the engine.
Either way, it sounds like a bad ass project.

I'd say put the V12 in the black one.
Many guys consider a red convertible a chick car, so your broadening your buyer base. Plus black seems more like a hot rod color.

in the collector car magazines they always refer to "resale red".
so it you are going to sell a car that is fast, i recommend red. tom w

You're quantifiably insane. You want to drop a V12 into 107, then sell it to make some money? It'll be almost impossible to sell when you're done with it. You'll lose your butt financially on this one.
If you want to do something like this, and I applaud the idea, doing it for financial reasons is the worst reason. You'd have to do this because you don't care what it costs, you're just an insane enthusiast who HAS to have a V12 107. I think you have the right idea for the wrong reasons; you'll lose money on the deal.

I'm with POS on this one; I'm afraid you're going to lose money, or at minimum not get compensated for your time and effort on this awesome project.
Having said that... Since the interior is now blue, I don't think the red exterior works with it. So a repaint is in order for that reason alone. There are some beautiful metallic deep blue colors and burgundy (? with blue, depending on shade) on the newer MBs; I'd prefer them to the black. In the northeast, I think darker colors are more popular than the lighter colors (just guessing) especially if your selling market is more regional than national. Why don't you turn this into a poll and let vox populi decide, since you are looking for what will sell, not necessarily what YOU prefer. Then the winners can all take turns driving it for you when it's done |

However I like that burgundy color with black. It is called Cabernet Red Metallic Clearcoat. I think there are some pics on this forum of SLs with that color.
