Exclamation 94' SL600- OVP- overload/overvoltage relay location

After hours and hours of searching in my 1994 sl600 and through every online source, I am unable to locate the OVP relay. I bought a new OVP relay which lists application for a 94' SL600 but I am now questioning whether the car has one. One or two threads online indicate it only comes on California cars, but I note that one of the stickers on my (non-California) car shows that it meets CA emission standards. Alldata shows the OVP relay in the module compartment on the passenger side firewall area immediately adjacent to the engine's computers. However, the Alldata picture shown is entirely different than the configuration of the components in that area in my car and, most notably there is no OVP relay anywhere in the engine compartment. To know avail, I have checked all fusebox areas in the engine compartment and the trunk thoroughly.

My review of the internet threads has been equally a loss. There are several discussions about the OVP on the SL600 but, when questioned, nobody gives a straight answer where it is located. I am beginning to think the '94 SL 600 does not have an OVP relay.

If anyone knows the exact location of the OVP for the 129 series, 1994 SL600 I would sure appreciate it!!!!!

Thanks! Ray

In my 1991 300SL California car it is located on the passenger side near / rearward of the top of the strut mount, near the main diagnostic connector. Both OVP and DC are disguissed with plain black plastic covers and difficult to spot. Removing the cover from the diag connector reveals a multi-pin header. Removing the cover on the OVP relay reveals a blade fuse. My cars in winter storage and I can't take a picture now, but perhaps some lucky southerner can post a picture. BTW, it's usually just the fuse which is bad in the OVP relay.

Ray, the 600SL/SL600 doesn't have an OVP.

Exclamation True experts know: Does a '94 SL600 have an OVP or not?

Thanks so much for your post. I also have a 300sl but to cold (Nebraska) to go check the OVP relay on that car. Arthur (see my response) says the SL600 was not equipped with an OVP. I suspect, pretty soon, heavy hitting Mercedes specialists, like Arthur, will chime in on this issue that needs to be resolved once and for all. Either the 1994 SL 600 does or does not have an OVP.

I looked up the OVP relay in alldatadiy and it shows one for a 1997 SL600.

Another strike against alldatadiy...When your subscription runs out, you might consider getting the R129 Tech DVD from MBUSA for $75 or getting the WIS from eBay for less than $20.
