Replacing top on SL500...

I own an SL500 (1996) and the top needs replacing (conv.). It is cracked on both sides and the threading, canvas edging is worn in areas, etc. I have searched this site and found a place I think I'll buy the top from but am not sure how to find someone to install it. Don't think we will tackle this one ourselves.
Any ideas what to look for, who to look for that could do this?

Also, we have a cracked/split (completely from top to bottom) front fender ....should we have a body shop repair or try to find a used one and have it painted to match? Opinions?

Both of these seem to be common issues with this car as I've been reading through past posts here.

Anyway, thanks for any help anyone can offer!!

Ah,,, bumper. Would have to actually see it to determine if it is fixable. These plastics have a tendancy to break in cold weather.

I will try to get a pic this weekend and post.

Hmmm, so I'm not in New Jersey(thanks anyway, wishing I was about now), anyone have any other ideas? Who does this kind of thing? Only the mercedes dealers? That was what we were trying to avoid per price quote, etc.

An automobile upholstry shop experienced in replacing tops should be able to do it. The Mercedes dealership here in Richmond out sources to a local shop. There are mutiple sources for after market tops such as Bill Hirsch automotive, GAHH etc. Do an internet search and you will find several more. Of course you could get the genuine Mercedes replacement for > $3K.

Okay, so I have 2 quotes for installing the top (with me purchasing the top elsewhere...this is labor only) 550.00 and 750.00. The 750.00 place is also the place where our merc dealer uses so I would probably lean more to that one.
Does 750.00 sound about right or high?

Can't find anyone to just install the plastic but I guess it should all be replaced anyway.

Also, going tomorrow to a mobile auto body place to see about the crack in the front bumper.

soft top replacement on ,91 500SL

I am about to replace my top and have decided on GAHH for the top. Before deciding on them, a had a quote for $2500 to install the top from a local shop.
GAHH has a great feature on their website if you plug in your name, zip and email they will send you a list of local installers.
Got hooked up with one from the list here in Minneapolis that does a lot of R129's and will charge $750.

Matt
