New Windshield
I was hit by a rock on I-10 today, the road's a mess with all the construction. I need a new windshield, any ideas how much I should expect to pay for a Mercedes Benz original glass screen fitted?
Any recommendations of fitters in the Houston area? |

You don't carry comprehensive insurance?

Yes, but I have a $500 excess so it's probably not worth submitting a claim

The windshield is no big deal. Probably about $300 installed.
Oops, you said original MB. I guess I don't see the need for an original windshield when many companies make perfectly good glass to DOT specs. If you must go MB then take my number and 3x it.

Some aftermarket seals are skimpy and allow water to get in then you have a rust bucket in a few years. Tell the installers you demand a Mercedes seal, they usually buy the cheap ones from a jobber like like Worldpac, I know a window installer that refuses to use them they are so poor!

dieseldiehard is absolutely right. When I had mine done, I used PPG glass, MB branded seal, and my parts guy sent me a Daimler-Benz white sticker so it looked original. This was a few years ago, but I seem to recall the whole job was under $500, installed.

We had an MBZ windscreen put into the SL600 last year after a rock got kicked up from a tractor trailer on the freeway. I don't recall the exact cost, but I know it was over $750.

Too bad you folks don't live here in Minnesota...comp covers 100% on any glass.

I believe there is a difference in quality. Some glass is softer than others and wears quicker as a result.
Regarding Comprehensive most states (if not all) allow you to carry 100% coverage. You merely have to pay the insurance company a higher premium. My advice is always to pay the few $$$ extra for complete protection. I think it cost me $24 annually...well worth it.

Pay the $24 annually. After about 4-6 years the windshield is ready to go. I would use a medium weight ball peen stratigically placed.

windshield
State Farm Insurance paid $846.00 to replace mine and will replace any glass free of charge, well as long as you pay the full cover insurance premium.

Absolutely. It's been discussed many time before over at the Pelican Parts Porsche forum. It hurts when an OEM windshield, with built-in antenna, used to be about $1k.
Some would forgo the antenna feature and go with less expensive glass. That said, some brands are better than others but it's a hard product to research.
