72 450slc

My 1973 450 slc was running ok but I was getting about 12mpg, I shut it off to get gas and it wouldnt start so I was at the mercey of the tow truck driver. the mechanic he took it to disconected some wires from the distributor and who knows what else and it has ran eratic ever since.
the oil gage is pegged when cold and falls to the point of stall when the brake is on. my rpm gage no longer works and its eating batteries like crazy.
I have condinsation from the exaust, plugs are fouling quickly.

Yeah, what exactly wrong with it? BTW, 12MPG is just about normal. What exactly did the tech do to it?

I cant imagine why a tech would disconnect distributer wires and then return it to the owner. It really seems counter productive. . .it certainly wont run now. . .

PS- 12mpg, like mercy said, is average, my '78 was getting around 10mpg. . .hopefully that will soon change. .

What model is it really? There's no such thing as a 1972 450SLC.

Haha, I guess I wasn't paying attention. He is correct they didn't make a 450SLC in 1972. However they did make a 1973 450SLC.

I'm assuming that the wire in question is the vacuum advance. Only other wires are plug wires and the wires that connect to the trigger points.

maybe he disconnected the vacuum lines, if so that woud cause a high idle, eratic idle, and poor mileage.
