New (to me) 560SL
Just bought a 1988 560SL. Has what I think are minor issues; like doors need adjusting, replace sunvisor clips. Overall, it is immaculate; especially when you consider that it has 161K miles on the odometer. NO paint work, clean carpets, seat covers must have been replaced, soft top absolutely brand new, and a/c just repaired with new compressor. Photos are at http://rides.webshots.com/album/569007598UixpYB
I won't brag or make excuses for what I paid for it, Suffice it to say that I neither stole it or got raped in the purchase. Now to tweek out some minor issues. |

Congrats!
It may just be the angle of the picture, but the chin spoiler seems to be missing... What's wrong with the doors? Enjoy the ride...

Hi - Very smart looking car but I agree with Walrus - studying all of the pics the front spoiler below the bumper/fender seems to be missing - looks like a pre-facelift shape at the front - although the rest of the trim ( wheels etc) are definitely right, the front shape could be from a 72-85 model? Love the chrome wheels though - my standard 88 wheels are same type but not chromed. Happy motoring Jim

Somebody probably hit a curb, busted it, and removed it. I'm sure they are available new. Congrats, and enjoy! If you adjust the doors, you will likely need to remove the door panels and adjust the glass as well to fit the hard and soft tops. This can be a time consuming pain in the butt. It may not go as smooth as you think (from personal experience). Check those timing chain guides for any breakage. If one is broke, it could break the chain and cause you a world of hurt. And change the chain if it has not already been changed. It is way past due if not done yet. |

door adjustment
The doors don't close easily. They have to be slammed. I haven't really looked carefully, but they don't drag, rub, or seem to sag. Might be a matter of simply adjusting the striker.
How adjustable are the doors on an SL? Wild guess at what the dealer would charge??? Thanks |

Try it yourself before you pay the dealer. You can adjust the catch on the jamb simply by loosening the large Phillips head screws and moving the catch, in your case probably outwards, a bit. |

Nice stable of cars
I have to ask which one is a daily driver???
On my 86 560 I only have to slam the doors with the hard top on. With the top down they close pretty easily. If the door closes good with the windows down I would not play with the adjustment unless you are getting water in. There are good instructions on the window adjustments but I have not seen anything on adjusting the doors. Unless your dealer is a lot different then mine stay away from them. |

door slam
Look at the window sealing gaskets. If the window height is a little off the windows will hang up on the outside of the gasket.
