Thanks to all for OVP posts saved mucho dinero
After reading multiple posts about the relationship between the OVP relay and performance, I decided to check the relay on my 85 380 sl.
I had been experiencing hesitation and lack of performance at start up and during warm starts. Driving performance was also mediocre. Low and behold the fuse on my OVP relay was blown and for $2.99 my problem was solved. A mechanic estimated $1,500 to replace my fuel distributer! Clues are ABS light on dash and performance issues. Relay is located above fuse box on wall just below glove box underpanel. Mine was silver with a red top which is the fuse holder. There was an immediate improvement in performance....like night and day. |

I'd say "night and day" is an understatement
![]() As I've said before, goodness knows how may dollars and hours have been wasted chasing gremlins that are simply traced back to a blown OVP fuse. And unfortunately, the fuse blows more often than not when jumping the car. On the 560s, the ABS light is a clue -- but not on the 380s. Glad to see things worked out for you. |

On the 380SL OVP problems can result in constant ABS light activation as well as a neutral idle speed of 15-1800 rpm.
