I now have an unmolested pair of exhaust manifolds for my '84 280SL. Also, after saving a few more pennies, I will be ordering a complete new SS exhaust system from Timevalve (new exhaust is needed, anyway).

I want to coat the exhaust manifolds. My questions is, should I just DIY ceramic paint them or send them off for professional ($$) treatment. And, if so, where? Thanks for the suggestions.

Eastwood makes a manifold coating that is as good as professional ceramic. If it were a set of headers, then I'd take them to get coated professionally, because they'll produce a much better finish, gloss wise, but for cast iron, the east wood stuff works well Check out http://www.eastwood.com

This particular grey car was imported when new so it was federalized. The front manifold was drilled and tapped for sensor. Now that the car is over 25 years, all this stuff can come off. I wanted a set of manifolds that had not been federalized.

I'll check out Eastwood. A day doesn't go by without a coupon from them. Maybe its time to use one! Thanks.

As much as I like my Stainless Timevalve exhaust, I would point out that -- at least in my case with an '83 380SL -- it changes the exhaust rumble from the refined and quiet stock sound to a definitively throatier and raw sound. Some may not like it.

Good to know about the sound. The M110 will probably not be as rumbly but still raw, don't you think? The quote I was given is $870 for a complete system sans catalytic converter (which I don't need now) plus hangers plus shipping. About a grand total.

I have the TV system on my '73 sans mid muffler. I like it.

lusting for that on my 72. I like my rumble, but wish it had more throat
