1987 560sl getting harder to start
Hello, it's been a while since I've been here, had a few problems before, but thanks to all your expert help, problems solved! Now for the new problem: my 1987 560sl, have t crank it a lot to get it started, sometimes when cranking it tries to start, then just kind of "rumbles" then nothng! it's kind of like it's geting flooded or something, or maybe no fire all the time! Is i safe to remove 1 sparkplug wire anground it to check for good spark? The OVP relay has been replaced from a previous problem< so that's okay, is thee a fuel pump relay I can remove to se if it is getting flooded? wher would it be? any suggestios would be greatly appreciated, this is my car, and having to get my wfe to take me to work at 5:45 a.m. ain't working too good!Thanks,-ddayme

When was the last time you did a tune up? If it's been a long time, I would start there. Fouled/worn spark plugs and tired wires/cap and rotor can make the engine hard to start.
After that I would check that the Cold start valve (injector) is functioning properly.

As a matter of fact, I checked the cap/rotor, and they were in pretty sad shape, like all the contacts on the cap were worn/burned down to nothing, and the "tip" of the rotor was almost flush with the body of the rotor! Any idea who has the most inexpensive parts for these? Last time I checked, both rotor and cap were over $100.00, a little too steep at this time. Also, I have never checked the plugs! (dang me!), I plan on doing that this weekend. By the way, what are the best plugs for a 1987 560sl with 200,000 miles on it?
Thanks-ddayme |
