High idle agin..w/dash lights.

Golly gee, it's high idle time again, only now all of the "idiot" lights are lit, albeit dimly, and the a/c compressor won't come on. This almost sounds like a bad ground somewhere, I thought bad engine ground(?), hooked some jumper cables from engine hoisting eye on front of engine to body-didn't change anything, even checked the ground strap from the ABS to the frame-it is good. Could a bad ground somewhere cause this? fuse on the OVP relay good, relay was replaced 7-8 mos. ago, along with re-solder of idle control module. Coincidentally this started just after a horrendous rain storm we had (1 month ago) and of course my 560 sl leaks everywhere, but now all is dry!
This makes 3rd time for high idle issue in 1 1/2 years!
Any suggestions as to why the dim warning lights with the high idle?
I'll try anything to correct this, since I now have to use the car everyday for the next couple of months while my son uses my other car.
Thanks,
-DDaymen (1987 560sl)

Warning lights - the diagnostic module gets its power from fuse 1, so I would start by checking there for corrosion or moisture. I believe fuse 1 is powered by the ignition switch, so that is another place to check.

High idle - check to be sure that the idle control relay is getting 12V from the OVP relay. If it isn't, see if the relay is getting 12V from the big connector on the right fender. If that is all OK, check the voltage across the pins of the idle control valve. If it is zero, then your idle control relay may be TU.

Hey thanks for the info., I'll check those things out tomorrow. Also, bad place for a fuse box, as when it rains, some water drips down by it, because the metal under the fresh air vent intake grills has rusted away from previous owner(s) not keeping them free from debris. Another project is to somehow repair/replace the missing metal (I removed all the rusted metal, osphoed and painted what was left to retard any further rusting) I'm sure this problem with the rust in that area is common to these cars, I'll have to see if anyone knows of a good way to repair this, being creative in body work ain't one of my specialties!

Got a good used OVP relay to use, installed it and fixed the high idle, but still have all the "idiot" lights lit up dimly, also the low fuel light (full tank) still wondering if there is a short or bad ground some where??

Still having warning lights (battery, brake etc.) had the alternator checked, diodes, regulator, battery all ok, checked engine ground strap under car, good shape there, terminal on alternator ok. One thing I did was check voltage on battery while engine running, no load =13.6 volts, with engine revved up voltage went up to 13.8-13.9 volts. This was before had alternator checked at auto zone. Battery voltage with engine off, left headlights on for 30 sec. turned off and checked battery voltage,=12.8
I don,t know what else to check!

Also one thing car has always done since I've had it (6 years), a/c compressor will not come on unless the two wire plug on the temp. sensor, the one in front of the I.C.V., is partially disconnected (leaving one of the two wires/connectors connected) but it has been this way before the warning light issue. At least the high idle is fixed!!
