82 380SL fuel Pump issue

Hello all! It has been awhile since I posted anything here! I have a fuel pump question, I started my car and pulled up to the side of the house to rinse the pollen off the windshield and while idling, the car just shut off. "Well, that's new," I thought. So I jumped in and turned the key off and then on again to restart and I did not hear the familiar hum from the fuel pump. Of course it would not start either! I turned the key off and on again and still no sound from my fuel pump. Now if we were talking about my husbands Ford, I would say, needs a new fuel pump, but being a MB, it may be one of numerous things. I checked fuses, all ok. will check wiring underneath next. Am I over thinking this? Should I just get a new fuel pump...like I would the Ford...
