This takes the cake - Trigger points for the 1972

As some of you know my 72 is an early production number , 000541
the trigger point part number ( original ) is 000 158 01 19. The ones available are 000 158 03 19 and sport the attached plug going to the 5 pin large connector. Mine has the blade connection at the distributor. When I talked to the classic center they told me I had to send them originals and then they in turn would send them to Germany and then they would release the part. Now aint that crazy.
SO the question is , can these ( the one with the plug ) be modified to fit my plug and do you think they are the same as far as function
I am thinking yes to both - anyone do this , try this??

You should be able to find the right ones w/out needing modification.

Maybe Phil will be able to confirm, but I think these are the correct points, and are available through Fastlane (W0133-1634248).

yep ron - Ive made a fly lead for several differnt combinations. Have a drawing on one of the pages of my mercedes manual - ill dig it out and scan it. just gives you the different pins in the connector on the trigger points and which pins they connect to on the block above the fan switch.
cheers

so these will work , I figure if I knew where each lead went , should be easy to retrofit, so the points themselves are proper for my engine?
MB classic wants just shy of $1000, lol for the original

sorry Ron cross posted - yes either should work just make the fly lead you need for your setup. when i have used the points with the plug on the points holder I had to use the small radio speaker connectors to fit and then just filled in around them with dielectric grease and covered with silicone rubber.

check your PM for the trick with replacing the arms alone with cheaper double points djet arms. works well
cheers
Barri

My '75 with 150K miles is experiencing like symptoms, and I've been contemplating either a change of the pulse generator, or a Megasquirt conversion.

Building the Megasquirt would not be a difficult undertaking for me. But if I can get the repair kit for the pulse generator, it would be a lot less of a job.

It would come down to price. I'm away from home for another day, so I can't try to contact The Classic Center, but I will as soon as I get home.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Bosch has created a repair kit for the Trigger Points (Pulse Generator, which is an alternate name):

http://www.automotive-tradition.de/en/start/index.htm

Contact Bosch directly, other than dealing with the Classic Center. They would likely charge an overage for their services. I have found many parts for my 3.5 Cabrio by using the Bosch part number, rather than the MB part number on Ebay, etc. No luck with the Trigger Points however. The Bosch search ALWAYS comes out cheaper than the MB price!!!!
