Need help 81 380 sl
I am trying to reserect a 81 380 that has sat for years. So far In have cleaned the fuel tank replaced fuel pump and filter. added about 2 gal gas and tried to start. It will start by pouring gas directly in throtle body. It did try to run once for about 30 sec. Where do I go from here.

You'll need to check the pressure at the fuel distributor inlet to tell you if you're getting good pressure there.
There are small filter screens on the fuel distributor at the inlet and at each output tube. They may have become corroded or plugged. Be very careful with the tubes from the distributor to the injectors, they are easily breakable. You might even have obstructed injectors. Here is a link to the service manual. http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/11883/?requestedDocId=11883 Good luck.

RadioTech,
Thanks so much for the link to the much needed Service Manual (1981 380SL)! I thought, I would never find a link or the manual. You deserve a 10+ and 10 seats ahead in the class, and a kiss from your favorite mechanic. (Just a joke). Once more Thank You. |

The EGv107 sticky on the Benzworld forum has a LOT of links for information, from theory of how the system works, to logs of various projects that guys have done. If you go through that, you can get a good idea of what to look for.
Just a caution when looking for a fuel pressure gauge; be sure to get one that can handle Bosch K-Jet systems. The pressure is a bit higher than others, I guess. Scott
