560SL Tachometer Not Functioning
I have a 1988 560 SL, 137K miles. Black/Palamino Leather
To get started, The tachometer is not working (at all) and I am seeking advice on how to repair it. First steps/first item to check and how to do it. Is there a sensor or pickup that I need to check...trace, locate? All/any advice will be greatly appreciated. Other than that, I Just bought the car, always dreamed of having one..love it already and now its time to start getting smart (aware of and addressing issues, learning from forum members, others, etc ) and and getting on with repairing & restoring it. |

The tach signal is fed to the meter by an output from the EZL (electronic ignition control unit). This lead goes by the diagnostic port, and then into the cabin to the instrument cluster.
You can access the CD-ROM version of the service manual online here:http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/11883/?requestedDocId=11883 It has the wiring diagrams and service procedures, but it takes a little bit of time to get familiar with. Look for a loose wire, poor connector, or signs of corrosion. Good hunting

Have you found out what's causing the tach not to operate? Please post what you found out as the tach in my '89 560SL is not working either. Thanks.
