1989 SL560 Washer Fluid reservoir "hole"
Forgive my cluelessness but I have had this car for a while but not driven it much recently. When I took it in for the safety check/inspection, I noticed the WW fluid level was low (dummy light was on) so I put fluid in. Lo and behold, as I am filling up this enormous reservoir, I notice a splashing noise and fluid going on the ground. On further inspection, I notice that the reservoir has a black cylinder like thing coming from it (must be the pump) and then to the left of that (peering in from the passenger's side of the engine compartment so "back" towards the windshield away from the radiator side) there is a hole parallel to the ground in the reservoir so only about 2 inches of fluid remain in the reservoir.
My questions - What was here? Just a plug/grommet thingy or something more important? Could something like this just dry up and fall out or did some diabolical service person forget to replace something? Is there some kind of manual with a diagram that could tell me? And then, where could I get the part that plugs this thing up or does something else more important than the $1.50 plug I see on the peachparts website (as I was tempted to just get a plug for the hole) belong in this hole? It is about the diameter of a large thumb. I appreciate any input and you can talk to me as though I was 3 years old since it has been a long time since I have done much to a car (it's obviously not my daily driver) although I am reasonably handy/mechanical and have had this baby since my mom gave it to me in 2001 (and she got it new so it's kind of like an old family pet and we put up with it's quirks). Thanks to all in advance Cathy |

Answer
The rubber grommet under the washer pump is MB# 1239973681.
The blank off plug for the second pump option is MB# 0009973320. .

Wow Thanks! That was quick and accurate. Will get the plug and maybe search the forums for an answer to the broken visor clip problem as well for when the gorilla glued piece breaks (again)
Appreciate the help. |
