Blower motor interchange. 86 560sl into 84 280sl

There is one available via auction from a 560SL. I'm wondering if they are interchangeable.
the part numbers differ by only a few digits and the picture looks exactly the same as the dead one i have.

Yes. EPC shows the same PN for both models. 107 830 03 08.
How much? You can replace the motor in yours for less than $100.00 and a few hours work. Heater Blower Unit Rebuild Tutorial - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

I did see that write up. At first i thought i didn't have time to do that but it seems to be a good way to go. The auction for the used blower fan is around $100. Used would be easier for sure. As far as longevity goes I'm thinking the new fan is a better investment.

old thread but an update

Well I'm getting the HVAC in the 280 in order. I have just put together the fan motor in with the housing. I got the motor on the cheap for $62. It is a Bosch made in Brazil. The same one that sells for $175 or so on another MB site. The part no is Bosch 0130063013. The number on my old fan is Bosch 0130063022. The only difference is made in germany on the OE one. I believe the one ending in 013 is the same as the one from Adsxxx.co . It is from mid to late 80's BMW cars, quite a few. I wonder why its not listed for the R107 in any of the parts sites. Its definitely a direct fit. They even have one with cages that says made by BEHR. I bet you can adjust them to fit the r107 fan assembly. It probably has the Bosch motor still.
Also a benzworld find on that info.

AC works

I didn't even have to recharge it. The PO was not lying when he said he had done a lot of work on the HVAC. It seems he was almost there. The fan motor being the last thing to fix. I can see why he waited. 1100 +- for a new OEM fan assembly. Its done for less than a hundred like you said If you DIY.

AFAIK, the only difference that matters between any MB blower assembly is the resistor pack/plug, which is soldered to the motor (two wires, the polarity has to be observed or it will blow in the wrong direction) I THINK (think) that this was changed around 1982 or so. If you can disassemble and solder, it's possible to take a good motor from an new blower assy and install it in the old assembly, and so on.

VERY early blower motors I've seen had METAL squirrel cages attached.

"Another" site describes the careful procedures of moving squirrel cages from a dead motor to a good one.
