To buy or not... 73 450SLC

Im a glutten for punishment so talk me out of this car...

The good-

One owner car.
76,000 original miles
Built date verified '73

The bad-

-Been sitting in garage since 1989.

-Gas tank rusted out. (They have not tried to start the car yet) But tank is out and has hole in it from rust.

-Sitting outside now, trunk seal leaked so quarter panels filled with water, not rusted but has ruined the carpet etc.

-Seats need full redo. All of them including the bad, due to owners dog. and age.

- Carpet shot.

Obviously, will need major work, rubber replaced everywhere, Fuel lines, etc.
See green on bottom of radiator...old leaking?

Little rust starting at drivers jack point in floor.

Car has been repainted, over spray.

Can buy it for 1500 Not sure if it's worth more than a parts car.

It's Ikon gold and it has small bumpers which makes it OK in my books. If you can DIY, it will certainly help keeping costs down. If you're farming it out, then it will be an expensive project even if they gave it to you.

If you need a gas tank, hit me up.

Honestly, I doubt I would keep it's color scheme. Since it would require and full repaint and a new interior anyways, I would change it to something I liked better.

I need to go and look at it again. I kind of stopped after I knew I was not going to buy it and forget didn't notice the condition of the dash itself. If it's all cracked up, then it would be a no, if it's solid then there is a possibility.

um... $1500 is a lot for the starting point of the car. You would put a lot of time and energy ( and $) to restore. If you are looking for a flip , you won't get a return. If you LOVE the car then it may be worth it to you to do. Its all about the journey. That said it is still not a $1500 car .

Ya, I tend to agree. I'm looking at it as a parts car, and that would make it around 800 bucks...

800 would be fair, bumpers could sell for 300 alone, then you have the brightwork. I have found when I parted the W107 I had that the interior bits sell, bumpers, some levers and buttons, chrome do dads not so much . Headlamps no , fogs -yes as well as rear lights, housings. Engine attachements sell as well, air cleaners, dizzy , covers , TP's AC stuff .

Good luck, start at $500

I know what you are thinking - "I'll save her and love her forever more!" - it is what I think every time I see a car like that as well. Now not to throw water on your hopes & dreams but I'd think that $500 firm is a realistic offer given that it is in all likelihood either yours or the scarp-yards if they can't/won't part it out themselves.

Must say that I do have a weak spot for the original color though...
