1973 450sl ignition switch

I have a 1973 450sl that needs the ignition switch replaced.Does anyone know what the procedure is to do this.Do I have to take the steering wheel off and pull the dash out to get to the electrical part of the switch?

Yes. If you don't have a service manual or the CD/DVD there is an on line version. Model 107

And don't use the steering lock to hold the wheel when removing the nut or try to start it with the cluster out. In fact disconnect the battery when doing it in case you forget.

Rowdie, thanks for the info,I read the instructions in a Haynes book, but wasn't sure if that was the only way to do the job.I've tried to use the cd. but haven't figured out how to get to the job that I want. The cd I have is "Mercedes Benz Service Manual Library" is that the right one or is there another.

That is the correct CD. Look in steering, section 46-640 Ignition lock removal. Use a short screw driver to remove three slotted screws. It doesn't mention it but on some models the key needs to be in the number 1 position to unplug the switch.
